Verizon has the best network,
I have Cingular and I am VERY happy with it. $29.99 a month, 250 anytime minutes, 1000 night and weekend minutes (nights start at 9pm). No roaming or Long distance charges as it's their National plan.

in the NYC area, Verizon rules.

I only know two people who don't use Verizon (one uses AT&T and the other is with Cingular) and they both complain about service all the time.

Definitely not Sprint, I live about 3 miles from the Sprint World Headquarters and I get dropped calls, shotty service, low signal all the time...I think I'm going to switch to Verizon since my work gets a discount from them and I've heard mostly good things about their service and coverage.

Because your experience with Sprint in one town defines the coverage nationwide:roll:

Where did he say it applied to coverage nationwide? He just said definitely not Sprint, at least in his area :p I'm sick of this crap where I don't receive phone calls and only get voicemails with Sprint. It's been a problem for over 4 years now with 6 different phones. You can't blame the phones for that. Luckily, I'm giving it to my sister and doing with T-Mobile :p

Verizon but you get the least minutes for the money. Free night and weekend and IN network rocks though

I was charged $66 in roaming for 96 minutes of usage even though I have a nationwide plan and it did not say roaming on my phone when I used it out there. They credited me 50-some dollars back but regardless, I should not have to go through this every month. Others months it has been minor stuff that they have been hitting me with that i have gotten most or all back. I think I am going to be checking out Cingular when my contract is up in Nov.
Turn off roaming on your phone (until you absolutely need it). I was in my home area an entire month and during that month they claimed I used 30-something minutes in roaming. Well my phone has roaming locked off... so that wasn't possible. They credited me back with no hassle.

Why would there be a roaming charge on a nationwide plan? IIRC you can use anyone's network without any extra charges. Oh well, I could be wrong.

And Raging, WTF does his experience in KS have anything to do with Sprint in Chicago? That's all I was getting at. Its just like my great experience with them in LA has nothing to do with how well it works in your area.

In that case then NONE of our opinions on the subject matter, unless we have a cell phone and use it on a regular basis in Chicago :p His poll asks what is the best cell phone service, whereas his post asks what is the best cell phone service in Chicago. There probably isn't one applicable post pertaining to the Chicago area in this post. You said it yourself that Sprint sucks in Chicago. And my original point is if your experience with (PROVIDER GOES HERE) sucks and you hate everything about it, does that make you feel anymore inclined to give them another change in a different city? Hell no, you'll think it sucks regardless.

Verizon offers the best coverage. The problem with Verizon is that their plans aren't very cheap and their phones tend to be light years behind phones offered for other plans (in terms of price and availability). Plus, Verizon phones are still CDMA.

I would go with Verizon because their phones are getting better and you can configure your phone for free wap access. :)

THIS POLL SUX.

WHY?

RESULTS WILL BE SKEWED BASED ON A HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF PPL ON ATOT WITH THAT SERVICE.

I DELCARE THIS INVALID.

Techincally Verizon/Sprint's CDMA technology is light years ahead of GSM that everyone seems to love.

Verizon has the best service, but the cost per minute / feature truely sucks.

Three years ago, my sister and her boyfriend both had SPCS in Chicago, and they hated it because of dropped calls, weak signals, and incoming calls that regularly went straight to voicemail.

I don't know whether Sprint has improved much since then, but compared to them, Verizon was relatively flawless in Chicago for my sister, from the time my she switched (in '01), until she moved to LA earlier this year.

I also moved from SPCS to Verizon in my home town in '01. While SPCS wasn't bad here, Verizon has been better. I've had far fewer dropped calls, calls straight to voicemail are a relative rarity, and the signal is stronger in more places throughout the area.

For me it's Verizon.
I always have a signal (unless I'm in the Subways) and when I needed my phone replaced (dropped it) they got me a brand new phone in an hour. I'm not too crazy about Verizon's phone selection though.
I've been a Verizon customer for five years and I have no intention of leaving anytime soon.

I had T-Mobile for over a year. I liked the price a lot, and the phone they gave me was great. With GSM, I could also use the phone overseas with a prepaid SIM card. I was pretty happy with T-Mobile.

The problem was that the GSM reception inside thick buildings (at work) is not very good at all. More important is that I moved a few months ago, and there's no reception at my new place.

I've gone to Sprint (to save $15 compared to a similar plan with Verizon). Sprint seems to be nickel and diming the crap out of me and their phone came with no real games installed, no extra battery, no ear piece, not even a wrist strap (the T-Mobile phone came with all of that).

I have an 1100 minute nationwide plan with unlimited nights and weekends (and I actually use about 1000 of those minutes). It's like $70 a month. At that price, I'd appreciate it if they didn't tack on extra fees for every little extra.

I'm gonna try out Verizon next year.

verizon. its a tad bit more expensive, but sometimes you just gotta pay to play. i dont even remember the last i dropped a call, and 'network is too busy' is never a problem. and finally all my friends made the jump, and now those in-network deals allow me to lower my anytime plan minutes. not to mention the v710 is pretty damn feature-rich, so im not even that far behind on the cell phone technology curve (at least here in the states).

I disagree. the In-Network calling is unbelieaveable. I talk 2,000 minutes a month, and most of those are free due to the in network calling. Verizon is the bomb.

I hated sprint.
