Hi everyone! Looking to try to find out from your experience what's the best CDr disks out there in 700mb/80min. I know from past experience that regardless what the pros might say about a given media type, true world experiences and knowledge tend to hold a much truer light to the reliability of a given storage media than any review can.

So what's your favorite CDr disks and who do you think is most reliable? Sony? Memorex? Someone else? Thanks for the info.

Brands mean nothing. Its who made the cd's that matter. Fuji is good, memorex is also often good. Usually, the agreed upon best is TY or Taiyo Yuden.

AFAIK, FujiFilm and Memorex (sometimes) are Taiyo Yuden. Basically anything with the screw down spindle (not the twist in one) and Made in Japan right?

The only Mitsu rebrand I've seen with CDR Identifier is Verbatim.

Anyone know of any others?

yah, I noticed this. Memorex has had the twist spindle for their 100 packs of TY CD-r's for a while but just recently all the memorex and fuji 50-packs that are TY have gone to the twist spindle as well. No longer can you identify a ty from a long distance away. The very best way to tell is to look above the UPC bar code, usually there they have the made in location and if it is japan grab it, anything else, dump it. Well, there is one exception, verbatim (sp?) cd-r's say "made in tawain" on them but they are still good cd-r's as they are the previously mention mitubishi chemical made and are top notch.

Something to note is that not all TY made cd-r's are made equal. While all are very high quality and will hold data for a long time, not all have the best thickness. If you notice a Sony or HP branded TY cd-r is a bit heavier than a TY brand memorex or fuji. It is because the top layer is a bit thicker and so will resist scratching better. Now, to put this in context, I have tried to scrap a fuji's top layer "simulating" very rough normal use and have so far had no luck, so if you have fuji's don't worry about it. I just figured I had to flaunt this otherwise useless knowledge so that I can convince my friends that I am not a complete waste of space. :) Hope that helps

P.S. if I babbled too much and lost you just do what everyone else said: Buy Fuji, Verbatim, or Made in Japan Memorex cd-r's and you will be fine.

If it's made in Japan, it's pretty much certain it's 100% awesome. HP also made some cds like this.

Yep, if you want the best, might as well grab Taiyo Yuden's own branded media:

Taiyo Yuden on Pricewatch

TY @ EZLabel.com

TY @ Meritline.com

TY @ CD-DVD R Media dot com

TY @ CDRPlanet.com

TY @ CDDimensions.com

Note: I did a quick search for places selling TY branded media. This does not constitute an endorsement of any listed on-line vendors.

the Fuji's have been working for me. Can't beat a 100 for $8 when BB has those specials.
