Best CD-R's for data and Audio

I just ran out of CDR's after getting spindles from Office Depot for 99 cents. I cant believe I am out!!! Anyways, what are the best quality CDR's for audio and data. I know that most data ones are the same, but I want audio ones that will play in cars and portables and everything.

As far as I knew, a CD-R was a CD-R. You could store both audio and data on a CD-R. If you want it to be a readable music CD in stereos and such, you have to burn it as a "Audio" CD and fill it with tracks (usually fit 19-23 songs on a 700MB CD).

Yeah, thats what I thought too, but i have bured some sometimes that dont read well in audio cd players, like a car, or a portable or a home unit. even if I burn them as an audio CD and everything. I think it has to do with how reflective they are and maybe some other things too.

I find that Fuji's and HP's (made by Taiyo Yudens) play perfectly on my Discman, but this usually depends on the person's player. Discmen are a little more picky probably due to the low power constraints, but on most stereos, the brand of CD shouldn't matter. Other people like the silver colored recording surfaces since they say that it mimics the pressed CD's as closely as possible.

I don't know... everyone else has their own theories. Just try a few out and stick with one that works for you.

Stick with anything "Made in Japan" i.e. Taiyo Yuden because those manufacturers tend to use the long-term dye. K-Hypermedia's are also really good. Fujifilm is the only brand I know of that uses the Taiyo Yuden CD-R's.

The short-term dyes are prominent in CD-R's by memorex, imation, and the cheap-o no-name CD-R's. The problem with these is that 1. people have complaining of lots of coasters 2. the data on short-term dye CD's is liable to be unreadable after a few years 3. burning speeds are not as fast.
