Best Caribbean island/country for wedding?

Its just going to be the two of us. We definitely want to get married in the Caribbean, probably on a beach. Any suggestions in particular? I've done a little research, and it seems like maybe the leading choice if the Bahamas, followed by the Dominican Republic, but I would like yalls thoughts since the forum has never steered me wrong.

Thanks gents!

I had great time at the Bahamas with Sandals all inclusive package w/ wedding. I'd say the cost was reasonable when you sum it all up.

Dont go cheap, cheapest is probably Haiti or like it. Just go for USVI or BVI or Bahamas. Its your wedding, do you want it to be cheap? I would not want it to (if it was my wedding)...

Interesting postmortem, the girl also mentioned Sandals in Bahamas. I've heard Atlantis is the super fancy place, but she said Sandals got better reviews on whatever review site. Did you consider Atlantis at all?

Did the Sandals all inclusive package include free food and adult beverages?

Definitely not trying to go dirt cheap, just want a decent deal at a good place.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far!

bahamas and dominican are FAR from the best places in the carribean. those are just very commercialized places.

i've stayed at the atlantis. atlantis is really fucking awesome and i liked it a lot, but there are other places i'd rather go.

i've been to many places in the carribean, my favorite place is turks and caicos (providenciales) and a very close 2nd or tied is aruba. been to aruba 3 times and probably going back this year again, and t&c just once which was 2 years ago.

aruba i'd actually recommend big time if you're new to the carribean too. it's VERY safe and you can rent a car and drive anywhere on the island and feel safe. it's a bit more touristy and built up than t&c but not in a bad way. love it there.

just google 'grace bay' and you will see why turks and caicos owns.

Went to a small destination wedding in the Dominican. I would be really careful about your venue as the places available for the ceremonies are, apparently, often nestled right along side guest areas. Their photos make them seem nice and secluded when in reality you have about 200 strangers sunbathing a couple feet away. I've only seen two places down there but have heard thats pretty common

Been to 3 in Jamaica, the closer to Negril the better, Would rather not go back to Ochos rios. Can only speak if the North Coast of Dominican Republic, Cabarete can be really nice, depends on how much you pay...

Question is impossible to answer without any details. Are you two flying to an island, performing a ceremony, and immediately flying home?

Assuming not, it really depends on budget, whether you are looking for relaxation, night life, outdoor activities, secluded, developed, etc. Time of year also matters (if summer, do you want to be in hurricane central or further south at one of the ABC islands?).

DR is a shithole -

I would suggest Playa Del Carmen at an adults only resort if all inclusive & super easy is your thing.

St. Martin is gorgeous but more spendy and a bit more work. Super safe and great food.

St. Kitts - completely off the beaten path that none of your friends have ever been to, beautiful with a side of adventure.

Roatan island Honduras - fantastic snorkeling/diving - top ten in the world.

Just the two of you? That's the way to do a beach wedding. Kudos.

I say no to a weddings in faraway lands when invited as a guest. Fsck that. I'd rather just send a generous gift of money and save myself thousands of dollars of pointless travel costs.

Have hit many on cruises in the past, I'd still say Barbados was my personal favorite.

I like St Maarten also myself.

St Kitts is an odd one, I still have a Batik shirt from there. Is another nice island. 🙂

Did the Americas Cup yacht racing on our honeymoon in St Maarten, had a blast. I was on the main grinder, the wife was a winch wench and about freaked starting out. She thought she could come along and not do anything, he he. Had a chance to do it again years later but it was canceled from being too rough a day on the water 🙁

We did all those plus a few more just on the honeymoon, we went on a Southern Caribbean 7 day cruise on Royal Majesty after our wedding.

Sandals includes everything, did hit the one in Jamaica once.

Nope, didn't look at Atlantis at all. Sandals all inclusive package had great free food, and some free liquor. However, one thing to be aware with Sandals is that their price vary a lot. Better accommodations (beachfront villas) come with a personal butler.

That's a cool thing to do. I used to hear Viking longboat cruises advertised on the radio. I thought that sounded awesome til I saw the boat. They're just shitty old motorboats; not a proper longboat at all. That got me thinking I'd like to have real longboat tours, where the passengers row a real handmade longboat when not under sail, and camping is part of the trip. If I were younger and/or richer, That would certainly be a thing.

I found it to be pretty amazing the amount of power wind can generate on a racing yacht, you just never know till you've been on one.

Yeah, those are the old Americas Cup ones, titanium hardware, Kevlar sails etc.

We even blew out a sail at the end of the race on the True North, but were ahead and won it.

Was a fun 6 hours or so.

Dragon boat races are kind of a bonding thing with some corporations, they do have a few of those around where crews row.

I think there are some clubs around for those.

Just for the sake of asking... Where would someone go that wants to see local culture, and not see a tourist or souvenir shop the whole time? No luxury pools, no stupid drinks with toys stuck in the top, just regular people, doing regular things.

edit:
and not more dangerous than an average US city
