My 280x gets me between 40-60 FPS at 1440p, on Ultra with 4x msaa. My cpu is a 4820k at 4.5 ghz / 16GB RAM. A 280x is a safe bet at 1080p, but an aftermarket cooled 290 (non-x) will be better, and should provide above 60 fps whereas a 280x will give you dips.

edit: a gtx 770 is a nice option, but I would only go for a 4gb version. maybe pick up a used one? If new, a 280x is a better value. Is your CPU overclocked? If so, it should help keep min FPS with a good card.

See if you can find a deal on the 7970, same thing as the 280X but is usually cheaper.

R9 280X is a much better choice than the 770.

Personally, I would get the R9 290. Actually, I wouldn't. I did get it, and it is fantastic. The reference model is loud though. If you need quiet, I would save some money at the same time and get a good aftermarket R9 280X or 7970.

If you're primarily a BF4 player, you have to keep in mind that AMD cards will get Mantle on BF4 in a month. Even without Mantle though, Nvidia cards are stuttering where AMD cards are smooth... Nvidia isn't really an option for brand agnostic, tech-savvy BF4 players right now.

Thats very easy.

You absolutely want an gcn amd gfx card for that game because mantle will probably give you an compettitive edge in the intense 64man battles where you start to become cpu limited and and cpu and gfx is pressed to the max.

As it is you get higher average fps and higher min fps for your money even without mantle. So its a no brainer.

Buy the amd gfx before mantle comes out for bf4. Lol.

Hmmm... I haven't noticed any stuttering on my 770 that I just bought. Which card did you experience stuttering on?

I'm just going by what [H] said in their performance comparison.

What was more disconcerting was the inconsistent performance between AMD and NVIDIA cards. Overall, AMD cards tended to perform better than the NVIDIA counterpart at the particular price point, with the exception of the GeForce GTX 760 vs. the Radeon R9 270X.

With each NVIDIA card, we observed frame rates to be far more varied than AMD based cards over the course of playing the game with them. It almost seems that the performance concerns that we had with NVIDIA cards during our Beta evaluation have only been partially fixed at this point.

I have only used the latest WHQL driver (331.82), so maybe that resolved the problems Brent experienced. They used 331.70 in the review. Although .82 could just be WHQL .70, so who knows...

If you aren't scared of used, 680's and 7970's are going for dirt cheap, 7970's more so. If you don't want used, then the 280X is a great choice.

No stuttering, perfectly smooth on my 670 SLI setup at max settings 1080p. That said, OP I would grab a 7950/7970 deal or a 280x. My 7970 rig maxes out BF4 @ 1080p with some drops into the 40's, but mostly 50+ FPS so when Mantle hits that should be a pretty constant 60.

Sure R9 290 is perhaps the perfect choice but I dont think you really need to spend the extra benji if your goal is BF4 @ 1080. Certainly go with the 290 if you want to give yourself some more breathing room.

Could be worth trying their settings out and seeing if you can reproduce their results.

280x is a good buy, the 290 would be even better if you can afford it. If the main concern right now is Bf4, AMD GCN cards would be better all else being equal.

Actually the 770 runs BF4 pretty solidly, I haven't noticed any performance problems (stability is a whole separate can of worms, but that's BF4 as it stands currently and buying an AMD card instead won't save you from that).

As per the recent [H] article following up on the stuttering and 7 vs 8.1, a lot of the nvidia stuttering seems related to win7. Win 8.1 is pretty much flawless (at least for playing BF4, I don't mean in general!). That's certainly a consideration if you're on win7 though - I haven't seen this personally but [H] have a pretty good track record on calling this sort of thing out. The game is also obviously unfinished (to the point I wouldn't really recommend it for a while), so a lot could change quite a bit on either side still (eg the recent nvidia drivers).

Right now though, both the 280X and 770 will comfortably max 1080p in 64p MP. Mantle is kind of irrelevant performance wise in this case even if it does turn out to be a huge increase as again, both these cards will already get great framerates at max detail anyway.

Long story short, if you're on win 8/8.1 buy whichever brand you prefer/which you can get the best pricing on/which game bundle you prefer, both are fine for max settings at 1080p in BF4. The 280X is a bit faster, but unless you're playing at higher resolutions or significantly increasing field of view, you won't be able to tell.

well over 85 (up to 135 at times) fps Maxed Ultra (no motion blur cause I hate it) on 1200p, all perfectly smooth, no issues at all, no crashes at all, I wonder what all you have been reading?
GTX780 oc'ed

but if you have your heart set on a AMD, pick up a 7970/7950 cause they are also great cards and will do the same as rebranded and save some beer money

I recently upgraded from one of those, a good card certainly. Of course, I doubt many people run a 7950 at under 1 GHz :D

if i OC it to 1000 MHZ will it be safe ?

99.999% yes
If it doesnt work you can chose presets again

If you dont raise voltage its safe. Using the amd tool is then safe. Remember to go to +20% for the power when oc.

Have fun !
