If you are going to get an nv30 or whatever plays doom 3 best anyway. then go to pricewatch.com and get whatever is cheapest beit the 9000 or 8500 or 8500le. That way you will be able to buy the nv30 AND Doom 3! J/k

That would be perfect for the P4's, and there wouldn't be the need for a second memory controller.

Trace length, PCB complexity, voltage concerns etc.

It's a LOT more difficult to get system memory to operate reliably at high clockspeeds then it is graphics card memory then doesnt have to deal with a FSB or a distant memory controller, is able to be connected directly to the core etc.
