Best Card for around $50?

Much faster than the cards you're looking at. Only problem is that a few days ago it was $50 after coupon code, now they have a different code that doesn't apply.

Just giving you another option. I don't think you need a low-profile card, but if you've confirmed you do, just disregard this suggestion!

i have a 6450 oem from hp if ur interested. has hdmi and dvi. no vga for some reason like the 6450's on newegg. it came installed but am using onboard graphics since i needed dvi and vga for my dual monitor set up. i paid 50 for the upgrade that it turns out i didnt need. make me an offer if u decide u want it.

Thanks for the offer, but just want to get it set up as I won't probably be up his way for another couple or three weeks and don't want to mess with it after this (crosses fingers)

Nice to know about the XFX 4670 cards, though the specs on Newegg and MC show 128 bit and the XFX site do show the 64 bit. Not taking the chance.
As I wanted to take care of this today, I'm willing to pay the extra to get it done.
There was mention of a HD5570 and found this at MC:

with a price match to Newegg it'll be $55 AR
Not as good price wise as the XFX 4670, but doable.

Just noticed that the card linked above also has a VGA connection, which is good as I don't know how he has the monitor hooked now. Though an adapter will fix that easy enought but one less thing to think about if I need it.

Hmm, wouldn't it be $50 AR? In any case, you're not gonna do better for the price. The only other viable cards that are cheaper are the HD 6450s, and those are more than 2x slower than the 5570 DDR3 while costing only a bit less.

I'm running the HIS version of that card, and it's been a champ. If I had the time to wait, I'd jump on that!

Think this is a good choice over the 4670 with DDR2. I had a 4650 which would be much like the 4670 with DDR2. I was very disappointed with that card, although I was using it for gaming and not video editing. I had no problems with it, but it was just way slower than I expected.

Check Ebay. Radeon HD4850's regularly sell for 40$ there and even 4870's can be snagged for that if you are lucky.

It's not a wise decision to put a graphics card that can use 125W at load on a generic "300W" PSU, not to mention Molex-to-PCIe adapters would be needed. He needs a low-power and decent performance graphics card, not a high-power mainstream performance one. That being said, the 6450 makes little to no sense, hence why we're recommending the 5570.

He's not gaming! The only thing a 4850 will trounce is his power supply.

First and foremost I want to thank all for the suggestions and ideas. Both the HD4670 and HD5570 were cards I hadn't even considered and honestly if I had planned better I would have gone the cheaper route on the HD4670 through Newegg.
I picked up the Sapphire HD5570 at Microcenter for $65 after they price matched Newegg so after rebate $55
After installing the HD5570 I checked the WEI and for graphics it went 3.5 for the integrated to 6.7: honestly only expecting the mid 5's. Very happy!
