that msi cyclone does look like a very good deal, but newegg reviews just crack me up. check out this one, for example (it was the rated the most helpful user review btw)

Pros: Very low idle temps and excellent performance.

Cons: Doesn't cook and clean

Other Thoughts: I got this to replace a GTX275. Benchmarks from review sites showed this card as being slightly faster than the GTX275/285. This card is in fact faster than the GTX275 it replaced. My 3DMark06 and Vantage scores were both roughly 1000 points higher compared to my GTX275

Newegg reviews are starting to get known for the crazy stuff people post in there. Also everyone usually lists their tech knowledge as high and then complain about a fixable problem that they have taken eggs off for.

Hey guys we can't complain. If someone wanted 1000 more points in Vantage, that means the GTX275 hopefully will find a home in the used market and perhaps someone will upgrade from Intel/AMD onboard graphics :) Also, by him buying the 460, nV just got more $$$ to invest into new videocard development.

As most people said in here the 460 1GB is great price/performance.

The 5850 is faster but has a premium for its speed.

Avoid the 465 because it isn't faster than the 460 and consume much more power.

The 470 can be a good value from a performance point of view, but also consumes much more power.

New cards are rumored to be coming soon (October/November) and price drops for the current AMD cards are also rumored.

So, IMO, you can either buy a GTX 460 and have the best performance for the price, pay a premium for the 5850 or wait a bit.

Bingo! We have a winner!!! Best advice I've seen in... forever.

FWIW I'd buy a 5850

hahaha.. i'd sell my 4890 before the 6xxx series goes out because of the reselling value may not be good for me

Yup that's the way to do it. I sold my 4890 in July, right before those GTX460 saturated the market. Even though 4890 is still an awesome performer and is very close to a stock GTX460, when HD6000 series ship, the "average Joe" will think that 4890 is slow as hell since its 4th generation vs. 6th!

At stock speeds my 470 was about 40-50% faster than 4890 @ 920. I can't complain since it cost me very little to upgrade; however, if I was in your shoes, I'd aim at getting a card with 5870/GTX480 or higher performance. Things really are better @ 750mhz = within GTX480 performance. I wouldn't bother with the 460 though.

yeah, i've thought about it over and over and i got insomnia just thinkin about it LOL!, the problem is my damn motherboard because of the sata port orientation, i wont be able to go with a large video card...

yes, the 5870/GTX 480 is the way to go considering the leap from the 4890 to these set of cards, really it could be considered an upgrade but i don't have a choice..

the GTX 460 hawk has a price tag of $249 by the way and here in our country costs like $276

Ya $276 is a lot of $ for a GTX460 card. Isn't your 19 inch monitor 1440x900? Surely 4890 slices through any game at that rez besides Metro 2033!

I think for your resolution you can probably skip this generation completely.

yeap my 4890 slices through anything with 1440x900 res, but i am just thinking of the reselling value of the card, i am DESPERATE to sell it before its price goes down south LOL!

plus the power consumption issue when idle the 460 beats the 4890 and most of the time, only internet surfing and etc is what i do, only 3-4 hours of gaming a day for me but i don't like playing on medium settings

If your willing to spend up to 300, 5850 probably, but I'd probably just get a 460 1Gb and save some cash. The 470 is nice, but you'd probably need a PSU upgrade, so kind of takes it out of the equation.

Get a 460 1GB, save some cash for an i5/i7 system. SLI 460 later down the road.
