Hello,

I am ready to buy the best card for the resolution 1680 x 1050. I was going to buy the 5850 for the price $259.99 but now it is $299.99 and out of stock everywhere.

I have narrowed it down to these cards:

HIS 4890 Turbo - $189.99 w/ free game w00t
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161298

Gigabyte GTX 260 Super Overclock - $199.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125294

Note: I have a 600 Watt 40A single rail PSU.

I am going to buy one tomorrow so any help is appreciated. I am leaning toward the first 4890.

Maybe consider a 5770 if you can find one in stock? That will give you DX11, lower idle power consumption and other goodies. Performance wise I think it is similar to the 4890, maybe more, someone maybe can correct me.

Nevermind I'll correct myself, the 5770 is slower than the 4890 by a solid chunk.

That GTX260 OC is nice, but it's being compared to stock clocked Radeon 4890's. The 260 probably won't overclock much more, but the 4890's will overclock enough to jump ahead and probably be cheaper to boot.
Newegg has the Sapphire VaporX 4890 for $175 after rebate, and the MSI Cyclone for $199 and both cards are excellent overclockers and have better cooling imho.

The 4890 that I am looking at is clocked way higher than the standard 4890.

Core Clock: 965MHz
Memory Clock: 4.2 Gbps

The 260 SOC almost competes with the GTX 285 from the AnandTech review.

Why do I put myself in these situations...I can't make up my mind for what I want for lunch.

The 4890 is faster, comes with a game, is $20 cheaper after the rebate, and supports DX10.1. The GTX260 supports Physx. Personally I wouldn't worry too much about Physx or DX10.1, though Physx may or may not have a future. I'd go with the bang for the buck part, which in this case is the 4890 if it was myself buying.

*edit - Just noticed just how far that GTX260 is overclocked... the 4890 also has a heathy overclock, but they may be closer to equal than the 4890 being faster... I really don't know. Neither is going to be hugley faster than the other at that res, but the 4890 is a bit cheaper, so I'd still go that route.

Overclocked 4890 > overclocked GTX 260 in nearly everything(It's common for 4890s to be able to overclock to GTX 285 performance levels). Given that the 4890 is cheaper than that GTX 260 as well, it seems like a no brainer.

But again, the GTX260OC is still a draw at least with a stock clock 4890. The 4890 overclocks really well too :)

If you don't want the free game, then it's not a deal. Most of the ones with a better cooler will overclock quite well, if your comfortable overclocking and don't need it to come oc'd for you. Look for the one with the outputs you want also, some have hdmi and display port, some don't.

Although aftermarket coolers usually cause the card itself to have a better temperature, they dump heat into the computer case. The stock coolers exhaust all of the hot air from the card outside of the computer case which helps keep overall temps inside the PC lower.

The pre-overclocked HIS card is the cheapest 4890 on Newegg. I don't really care for the game, but was just wondering if the Asus was a bit better cooling wise for the similar price without the game.

I'm pretty sure my Vapor-X exhausts out the back of the case. It feels like it does, anyway.

I have narrowed it down to three 4890's. I am so stuck on what to buy!

1. Asus 4890: Core 850 + Memory 975. Really nice cooler. Idle hot.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121308

2. HIS 4890: Core 965 + Memory 4.2. Reviews say loud + hot idle.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161298

3. HIS 4890: Core 850 + Memory 975. No reviews. One on youtube, idles very cool.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161299

The Asus is only a little more since the others do not offer free shipping.

I need an opinion =/

No love for the Vapor-X?

The reviews were a little low and the others were the same price. Kinda narrowed it down to those three but need an opinion.

I am leaning toward the Asus for some reason. More reviews + over clock ability, or the HIS with no reviews.

No love for the 5770? I know it's slightly slower than a 4890, but for 1680x1050 I don't think it'd be a huge diff, and it's got DX11 FWIW.

I bought the Asus 4890. It was $200 shipped with Bing and the Coupon. I am still waiting for DX10 to come out =P. I could not justify another $100 for a 5850 when I will get a good 2+ years out of a 4890 with the overclock ability.

Sweet deal! Well, you can always jump to another card later when you feel the games demand it :) Too bad the 5850 is so $$$.
