hmm, when it comes to backpacking, I prefer my Pentax K5 (weather sealed, magnesium body, etc) Not sure about you guys, but my backpacking experience has revealed lots of dirt/dust/grit which gets involved in the camera body. Why not future-proof yourself and eliminate the worry of getting shit wet/dirty while out on trail???
By the way, I don't mind carrying my K5 with a DA 16-45mm lens and a DA 55-300 tucked away in the pack. Go out and buy a binocular strap and attach your camera to it... keeps it out of the way, allows both hands for trekking poles, and easily accessible when needed.
