Best cable modem for comcast?

Hello, I'll be getting comcast soon and I need to get a modem. Does it really matter which brand I buy? There seems to be 3 major modems. In my experience, I always had problems with d-link and linksys has been great. I can't comment on motorola. BTW if I sign up in say bestbuy for comcast through one of those 6 month at 19.99 promotions, do I have to buy my modem there as well?

I don't think it matters too much...

I have Comcast myself. I'm using a Linksys modem, and It works great for me.

Using motorola with mine as well, works good, but I don't think it matters all that much, those are all good brands.

I just saw that part of your post. Comcast has that same 19.99 6mo deal if you order direct. I would order direct, and bypass BB.

But, I think you get a free modem with the BB order. I'm not sure though, as they change their deals all the time. If not, then buy whatever you like for a modem, and forget BB.

The D-Link High-Speed DCM-202 uses a Texas Instuments chipset. I don't know what linksys uses, but I would go with D-link or Motorola, both are great modems.
Why not get one from the cable company, last week I went down to my local office to exchange a modem for my mom, they were going to give me a toshiba but I requested a motorola and got one for free.

LOL The Modem isn't what's fast. 99% of the speed is the internet pipe. :roll:

Also, unless you're using a POS modem, they're all pretty much the same.

EDIT: Hmm...I was looking at some of the specs and some are DOCSIS® 2.0 and I think the linksys is DOCSIS 1.1. What does this mean?
