Those who read the news may have heard about this a couple days ago from the leaked memo, but it's official now. Best Buy's awesome Gamer's Club Unlocked membership program that, among other things, gave 20% off NEW titles for what worked out to be $15 a year is no longer available for purchase.

Existing memberships can be used until they expire, with no option to renew. I had to check when I last renewed, and consider myself lucky to have just over a year remaining. I've recently started to really take advantage of this program and am quite upset about it going away.

I was on track of buying every new game that came out exclusively through Best Buy, but that will stop midway through next year as my membership expires and I begin to seek deals through other retailers. Seriously this was the best deal out there, bar none.

Yea I read the news as well. It obviously loses them money initially but gets you in the store to help make up for it so maybe they were losing too much on it. I still have Amazon Prime though to get my new games cheaper at least but I'll continue using this until they officially end it.

I renewed mine about a month ago when I saw it had expired and I was going to buy some games. So, I guess that's a good thing as I'll get quite a lot of mileage out of it! Frankly, I think GCU worked on me as intended. I went from purchasing most things on Amazon to preferring Best Buy over Amazon. Although, I can't say that was entirely due to GCU, it certainly made me look at Best Buy more often.

I don't buy a ton of games from BB, or GS for that matter. I have Prime too but I think I've used it to preorder like 2 or 3 games tops. They always get them to me on time though, so that's a plus. It's funny how I'll make a stink over that but likely wont actually get to play a game on release day anyway lol
