I bought a TV from them a while ago and it came with a bluray/home theater about 8 months ago. I STILL haven't seen a cheaper price on that package. They did try to sell me on a few hundred dollars of monster cables but besides that it was pretty easy to get a great deal on what I wanted.
 
If they didn't say it was on sale, I'm having a hard time getting upset about this. It certainly doesn't sound like a ripoff to me. Getting mad that stores get to set the prices is like getting mad that consumers get to decide not to buy. Nobody gets mad when they temporarily lower prices...why get mad when they temporarily raise them? Mark it up, mark it down, it's their item, and they get to set the price. It's not like they somehow owe us what we would consider a good deal.

However, I haven't seen it in print. I guess there's a line that could be crossed where you could say they're calling it a sale even if they don't use the words.

Yes, I've had them pricematch about a dozen things to Amazon with zero problems. BB is this big bad company but I get shit for the same price as online without the wait. They won't pricematch Newegg. But for the majority of electronics I want are about as cheap on Amazon as they are Newegg.
 
I wish people would build their own computers or at least buy from people that do. Though I guess there's a sense of security in the big name retailers and manufacturers.

And building your own laptop is pretty much impossible. I'm aware of the OCZ Neutrino, but even that is just a shell for a netbook. So...yeah, I'm not really sure what I'm saying here.

Because building your own rig means all the top quality parts are being used. I know what's in it, how to fix it, it is much higher quality, and infinitely more times upgradable. Also people never mention you can sell your used computer parts for money to offset the costs of the upgrade. I'd love to see you part out your Dell.

Honestly, I'm sort of beyond caring about people getting ripped off on computers anymore. As long as they stop asking me to fix computers that they broke.

Wow, that's not bad. A bit surprising since they've been known to not even pricematch their own actual website (having the fake site that they access in store to claim that's not the price their website shows).

Yeah them matching amazon is hard to believe. I had the website bullshit pulled on me. Either way I still wouldn't buy from best buy even if they matched amazon. I can get just about anything on amazon with free two day shipping and not have to pay tax. And I still don't buy them price matching amazon.
 
Some bestbuys are better about price matching or even following their own policies than others. I've had bestbuy's refuse to pricematch a target across the street. I've had walmarts refuse it as well. This goes for just about any place. It's basically all about who is the manager on duty and how big an ass hole the store manager is.

I've worked long ago at a really bad bestbuy that pulled this kind of shit. Actually this bestbuy got closed down for a reason. If anyone in Colorado Springs remembers the bestbuy off Powers by Peterson AFB, that is one I worked at for a bit that got shutdown.

First off, the store manager refused to do employee discounts for anything there. Employees were not allowed to by clearance or sale items or be fired if found out. They majorily pushed the high margin stuff and basically made most of the sales staff lie their asses off to get those high margin items sold. It was the worst retail place I've worked at. To top it off, the reason I ended up quitting is because I put in a request over a month ahead of time to take a Friday and weekend off for my birthday and when I was having family come from out of state to visit. There was nothing going on that weekend either that required me being there. The manager scheduled me anyhow. When I asked, "what the f?" about being scheduled I was told to either show up for my job or not show up again. He wouldn't even let me switch with someone else. So I quit. On top of that, I never got my final paycheck from them. I had to file suit and the IRS and some other agency went after that one BB. Turns out, the store manager was majorly embezzling money from what was found out and a big lawsuit was filed and won. I ended up getting $1.80 check after it was all over.

As such, I only now shop at bestbuy when they screw up and have a major clearance price on an item.
 
Grocery stores do this all the time. Studies show that just being in the weekly sales ad increases sales of a given item. Therefore, they put a lot of items in there that are at the same price as or sometimes a higher price than normal.

I don't like this practice, but I don't think it's necessary an evil and deceitful way of doing business. I see it as no different than a grocery store having a big display of a certain item that makes it look like it's on sale when it's really not. It preys on people's perceptions obviously, but the price is clearly stated. It's the fault of the consumer for falling victim to these things.
 
grocery stores do this all the time. i like to barbecue ribs so i'm always looking at the ads for good prices, and it's amazing how often the ad price will be 3x or more the actual sale price when they do go on sale.
 
As much as I hate walmart... people are better off going there and throwing a system box in their shopping cart. Screw best buy.

a grocery store i use does something similar.

They will put a yellow tag under a product (1.99), it makes you think its on sale. You lift up the temporary tag and the sticker on the shelf reads 1.99.

That and they don't break down price / unit.

People assume its on sale and get suckered into overpaying for items that drop in price the following week.

How the fuck do you assume something is on sale when there's a price tag right fuckin there? How do you get suckered into overpaying for something when you're at the damn checkout counter LOOKING AT THE REGISTER and can see the price up front? If you pay in cash, you have to COUNT IT OUT, right? If you pay by card, you have to SIGN THE RECEIPT, right?

Customer#1 sees commercial for $400 computer.

Customer#1 goes to store and picks out a $1200 computer, thinking he has the $400 computer, ignoring price tags and model numbers.

Customer#1 takes it to the register. Register lists item as $1200. Customer pays anyway, somehow oblivious.

Customer#1, while walking out to their car ... "Hey, WAIT a minute!! This isn't a $400 computer!!"

Really? 🙄

Dumb customers get what they deserve.

dumb people are dumb. educate yourself before making major purchases, dipshits.
