The only thing that is in Best Buy's favor in my book is the proximity of their nearest store

I'm on the San Marino/Pasadena/South Pasadena/Alhambra border, and the closest Best Buy is off the 210 in Pasadena (10 minute drive) while the nearest Fry's is all the way in Burbank (30 minute drive)

Returned merchandise is tested to make sure that works before being put back on the shelf, is clearly labeled, and usually discounted. Most stores just put returned items back on the shelf without even labelling them as such. Would you prefer that Frys did that?
i also hate how they have to get a manager to examine all returns so that it takes 2x as long as it should.
It's not a manager, it's the "PIC", or whoever is in charge of the returns dept. at that particular time. He works only in that area, always comes quickly when called, and is there to sign off on the return. It's pretty standard in most stores do have a supervisor sign off on returns/exchanges.
and i hate that they try to make me open my bag and show them what i bought when i leave.
It only takes a second and you don't have to do that. But if you walk past (and you can) and don't let them mark your receipt, then you can't return any of the items you purchased if defective. Most stores do this so I don't know why people always bitch about Frys doing it.

In short, you're just complaining about things that other stores do too.

I  Frys. Although the deals haven't been as good of late. I did get a 50 pack of DVD media for $2 bucks after $10 MIR recently though. :)

Best Buy's got the proximity thing going for me, too; there are no Fry's Electronics stores anywhere near me--closest would be in IL, two states away. But Best Buy is worse. ;)

Fry's is awesome! It's like a Super Walmart filled with just electronics, computer stuff, video games, and beef jerky :) How can you go wrong with a combo like that?

former employee too?

i like fry's just for the selection, but best buy is closer for me.

if i need parts, i go to newegg or to fry's. but fry's - you can buy computers, porn and condoms all in one store.

Heh. Nope, never worked at Frys. Just done a lot of shopping there.

Oh yeah, BB is a lot closer. I drive by one almost every day. But I hate shopping there. When I need stuff and the deal is right, I'll run the roughly 20 miles down to Fry's.

I like Fry's but sales have been ho hum there lately. Also I hate the bait and switch crap they pull. They DO NOT even put signage of advertised promotions. Instead they put upsell signage and make people think that they are getting a good deal.
That said, I don't buy stuff at Best Buy. Or at least I havent in forever.

Easily BB. BB is far, far more evil than Fry's. Plus, frys isn't just a consumer electronics store. They actually sell cool stuff like o'reilly books, real discrete electronic components (ic's transistors and the like) and soldering irons! frys.

Is this a joke? Fry's isn't perfect, but to compare it to Best Buy would be insulting....

ROFL, tested. The only things they test are returned computer equipment, as per their return policy. Otherwise, it gets slapped w/ a return sticker, $5 knocked off, and goes back on the shelf.

I have two Fry's and two Best Buy's within a reasonable drive. I can deal with either of them for the right hardware at the right price.

Can't beat some of Fry's CPU / motherboard combos. You have to know which motherboards of the ones they offer are decent, but when the price of the combo is lower than the best price on pricewatch, it's a no brainer. :D

No contest. Like many others here, I  Fry's too.

Their customer service is lacking, but show me a store that actually has knowledgable reps. Impossible.

You can make a poll for them all CC, BB, CUSA, etc. Fry's still come out on top.

Really? When I return stuff, it usually takes me 30 mins to an hour before I get helped. The return line is so damn long.
