For this week there are some nice deals on DVD players.

Kenwood 5-Disc Progressive Scan DVD player retails for $199.99, now on sale for $139.99.

Samsung portable DVD player w/ 10" widescreen screen retails for $999.99, this week on sale for $899.99 with an available $100 mail in rebate.

a bit confusing here... is the $100 rebate what puts it at 899, or with the rebate will it end up as 799?

Actually, this deal seems hotter than the original poster thought.

It's $999, on sale for $899 BEFORE $250 MIR and $100 BB Gift Card..

So, 999, on sale for 899 - 250 MIR = 649 after MIR, then a $100 gift card to BB.. So essentially, $549 for this dvd player.. 🙂

That seems pretty HOT.

I forgot to mention that these exact DVD players are going for $630+ on ebay .. If you decided you didn't want it, you could ebay it and at least get a $100 gift card for free.. 🙂

Same reason why you don't use a laptop as a portable mp3 or CD player, not to mention good luck teaching non-techno savvy people how to use your laptop just to play DVDs.

True, but I can buy an mp3 player for a fraction of the price of a laptop. Considering you can find laptops for the price of this portable DVD player, you really have to have money burning a hole in your pocket to jump on a portable.

Fact of the matter is, these portable DVD players are way overpriced as far as parts and functionality are concerned. Then again, something is only worth what someone will pay for it.

Personally, I'll kick the $500 towards a subnotebook if we ever get any in the U.S. I hate to say it (God, I hate to say it!), but for $2000 you can put together an amazin 12" Powerbook which may be a close as we get.

Note to PC manufacturers: Send me tiny computer!!

650 bucks on pricegrabber dude.

$699 looks to be the going retail price (i.e. Amazon, Costco). IF someone can find a good local competetor (not internet), we can price match it to that price and feasibly get the unit for $699 - 250MIR - 100 GC = $350!

Type in you zip code here and see if a local retailer carries it for less. Circuit City = $999
