Best Buy Screwed Me...do i have legal rights here?

Ok, here's my story of what happened.

I had worked for best buy on & off since 1999, and last week they fired me on some crap that i took a check i shouldn't have. Whatever. Something i'm pissed about tho is a gift card i had gotten in early january. Just like millions of customers, i got gifts from friends & family i did not want, and went to best buy to get store credit. I waited in line, went through a manager & 2 supervisors & got my $320 somethin dollars on the card. However, when i went to check the balance there was NOTHING!!! I asked the Operations Supervisor constantly to check it out, what was goin on. I called the card company and they said they had not received the receipt thing. Well, i finally got an answer the DAY i was Fired. The general manager of the store said it had been POST VOIDED!!! So that means that after i left the store, and the transaction was complete, someone voided it leaving me with nothing!! now, i'm not a lawyer, but i gotta believe this is illegal!>!?!?!? How can they justify just canceling a transaction at will. Apparantly they gave me some BS how employees aren't allowed to return stuff. BUT i went through the Merch Manager Terry, the PC Tech Supervisor Steve, & the Ops Senior R****** (WHO, btw, had to OVERRIDE The transaction because the amount was over a certain number). That's the same as when there's a price mistake, we don't go cancel a customer's order, so how can they get away with that??!?! I still haven't gone to pick up my paycheck, the GM Brad said he'd give me back the items, but i'm like, screw that, i'll keep the money i was supposed to have THANK YOU!!!

If anyone can help me with the legal part of this let me know, cuz i refuse to believe it's legal for them to void out a transaction A) Without my presence/knowledge, B) After i left the store WITH MY RECEIPT In Hand

Get your original stuff back. Sense you are no longer an employee there, take the stuff back the next day and return it for another gift card. Or find another Best buy to return it to.

Take all of your receipts and just sue them in small claims court. They will either cut you a check as soon as you serve them or they go down in flames in court. Either way you get your money back.

The whole situation looks bad on their part, but this suggestion seems to be the best option. Just make sure they give you a NEW receipt and that way they can't say it's too late to return the items.

what do you mean NEW receipt? Also, i was plannin on demanding my money or takin em to small claims, but WHO do i sue? The GM, the Company, the OPS supervisor?

thanks guys

You sue the company and have a friend serve the manager of the store or whoever is there and incharge when you go in with the paperwork.

scarfase99,
PM me ALL the details surrounding the transaction AND the termination. Don't leave out any details, please. (Sorry, I know a lot of people that slat their story and forget that minor detail.) Can't guarantee too much help, but I've got a lot of former coworkers and good friends at corporate that can link me up with the regional Personnel Director and get down to the bottom of it. Also, you might want to call that special little whistle blower/employee theft telephone number.
