Not sure if this is where I should post this...but I have a question about bestbuys return policy. If you purchase a computer part and open it and try it and don't like it or are unhappy with its performance are you able to return it within 30 days. I bought a KyroII and I am very unhappy with it and would like ot bring it back. What are my options? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some of the computer stuff has to be returned within 14 days, however, if you get a nice employee they may accept it anyway. I usually tell them the product wasn't working properly, and I already got a new one somewhere else and they don't usually question that. I'm not sure if they have a restocking fee or anything, but if you tell them what I usually tell them, they shouldn't give you any trouble. Good luck! :)

Not happy with a Kyro II!? Make sure its set up properly :)

I returned a joystick to them, about 9 months after it was purchased - they gave me a new one, even though all I had was the joystick/power cord & receipt. So, I was given a new, retail boxed joystick, with the bundled game, etc :D

If it's defective, that's one thing... However, you're at their mercy if you "just don't like it," didn't do research on the card before you bought it, and you're past their return policy date (most stores are 14 days with a restocking fee if it's been opened).

Yes, you can return that card. I have returned video cards, *D-ROMs, even a hard drive (the box had been opened, but not the static bag). As long as it's not opened software or a whole computer, you can return it within 30 days. There might be some other restrictions, but you will be fine with the card. You don't need to tell them why you are returning it (unless it is defective/doesn't work).

I'm about to return an ATI Radeon card because of the poor driver support for XP. I'm also going to say that it's not any better than my previous card in displaying 2d. When I bought the card I was asking a salesman (he was standing right there and asked if he could help me) about the 2d performance on the Radeon card. He replied, "It's good! You know this is a 3d card so the 2d has to be excellent?" Then he looked at me like I had half a brain and walked away because I was asking about the 2d performance on a 3d card. Doh!

The return policy at any store is a satisfaction gaurantee, isn't it? If you don't like it, why should you have to stick with it? If I read the return policy correctly, you should have 30 days to return it and there shouldn't be any restocking fee on it because it's not a laptop computer, monitor, digital camera or any of the other things listed on their return policy. They didn't say computer part, so I wouldn't worry.

BTW.. Not liking the performance of a card isn't like something matching your shoes. How can you tell what a computer part is like until you actually try it? I had that problem with CDW and the Compaq P990 monitor. They said that I couldn't even exchange the monitor with CDW if I didn't like it or got a bad one. If they are going to have that sort of policy, don't you think they would make it a point to have one of these monitors out on display to look at? I took a pass because of their return and exchange policy on Compaq products. I bet that's why they have what appears to be an endless stock of these things even after dropping the original price in half.

If you don't feel good about telling them that you don't like the card, just tell the CS that there is poor driver support or something along those lines. Like the CS person at BB is going to know any different. Like anyone at BB is going to know any different.

Sal

PS.. I probably shouldn't have responded to this because it is off topic. Sorry..

Just be persistent. I returned a video card at the Spartanburg, SC store after less than a week and was hassled by some 2 bit employee because the video card didn't match the picture on the box, even the model # and part # on the video card matched what it says on the box. Come on, if I was going to steal a video card, why bother with a $35 el cheapo model. My wife raked the employee over the coals and we finally got our money back. I have not shopped at that store since. In hindsight, I should have walked to the shelf and opened up every box and broke the shrinkwrap to prove my point. And let them clean up the mess.

They'll take it back, I returned 2 Ti's (one the heat sink...err, fell off, the other I just decided I wanted an 8500).

I've found the best time for returning things is the day after x-mas :) They'll take anything back then for store credit.

My local BB's return desk is staffed by "Techno-Nazis" that will inspect every little detail of everything you've returned. Forget trying to return anything after 14 days. If you say it's defective, they actually make you wait there while they test the item! If it works for them, they won't take it back. I guess it doesn't help that they have plaques all over the walls saying they've been "#1 in Inventory Loss Prevention" for four years running :p

They should take anything back within time limit stated on the back of the reciept. That meets the qualifications listed there. So within 14 or 30 days almost any item complete with its original packaging, and reciept should be accepted for full refund (even if open), NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Open laptops, digital cameras and camcorders are subject to an open box fee, and must be defective, and open cd's, videos, dvds, or software is only exchanged.

Its all clearly stated on the back of the reciept.

If they give you trouble, ask to see a manager.

Try not to say you didn't like the item. Say something like you thought it did somthing that apparently it doens't, or you bought the wrong one by mistake and opened it before you realized it wasn't the right item. If you make it sound like you have the intention of purchasing the correct item now, i.e. the money isn't really leaving the store, they should be real nice. If they try and get you to exchange on the spot, tell them you want the refund and purchase as seperate transactions, due to your credit card policy or that you want to use a different card or pay cash.

I buy quite a bit from BB. For me the easiest thing to do was befriend an employee( in my case a supervisor) who looks like he or she has been there a while.I have this guy help me with all my purchases whether it is in his dep't or not. With his help I have NEVER had a problem with a return. Just my 2 cents.
