There is no way that one can make a true judgement by viewing the monitor's on display there. First of all they are using a split connection to run on all of the monitor's and the sales rep couldn't tell me what kind of video card was being used for them. (actually he didn't know what i was talking about when i brought up Apeture grill and Shadow mask.)
I certainly liked the KDS picture very much compared to the Samsung 955DF and the Viewsonic but i didn't feel confident that i was able to see the true differences between them. I did make any and all adjustment's i could on the Samsung to achieve a similar looking picture to the KDS but couldn't.
I went to another part of the store where they had a Viesonic used for internet access. The picture was considerably sharper than that which was displayed next to all of the other monitor's. This particular monitor had it's own video card and was not connected to a split connection.
I wished they had a Samsung set up to one of the computer's that had it's own video. They did have a Sony on a seperate connection and it looked beautiful.
I went to office depot next and viewed one of the KDS Avitron (same one they had at Best buy) The picture was noticably better.
After all of this i was hoping to be alot clearer on my decision. I am probably more confused than before i went.
Payday is wedensday so i'll probably make a decision by then.

If there's a monitor at BB that you really like, then head to the store during a weekday morning (very few customers) and ask them to connect it to a dedicated PC - I'm sure they'll do that for you. Then again, if you head over on a weekend and ask the same question, they'll probably give you funny looks.

I couldn't agree with you more. I can't believe the stores that have a "wall of monitors" set up expecting somebody to purchase a $450 monitor by looking at flashing pictures of Monet - Sheesh!

Yea, I agree with you guys.Monitor shopping at BB or the office supply stores is the sh$tz.Nothing like having closely placed fluorescent lights washing out the image and colors and aggravating the flicker of the low refresh rate while the low resolution BB advertisement is constantly changing or some other godawful crap plays on the screen. If thats not bad enough, sometimes the little plackard below the monitor has the wrong dot pitch, warranty terms or max resolution/refresh rate. One I liked in particular was the 19" viewsonic jammed into the shelf so hard it dented the metal back wall or the sony demo model at a slight price reduction with the colored wires showing thru a ripped signal cable.Box and manuals included? "Ha, you must be smokin' something boy." For a better evaluation, try looking at monitors at a "real" computer store if you have one nearby.I'm fortunate enough to have a local MicroCenter where there's at least half a chance to sit down and actually use the monitor that captured my fancy.Especially lucky days are when it's hooked to a Mac computer loaded with all those nice Adobe images. But ya have to do the best with what you have available and returns are usually not too hard if it don't look good on your home rig.Good luck in your search.Did I tell you about the guys at Staples kicking around the boxed monitors on the floor. That's another one I liked.See ya. helikon

The demo models that (BB and other places) have out are often set at a refresh of 60Hz, so looking at the tube after awhile can give one a splitting headache.

Also I've seen a couple of monitors that are so riddled with fingerprint smudges by curious "ooh/ahh" folk that even making a judgement call on display quality is impossible.

Couple that with staff that don't know the difference between models and only want to sell you a product replacement plan on top of the initial purchase.

they are quite smart,
they adjust the screen size larger than the viewable area,
so you won't see bowing on the borders.
and they run it at 800x600 or even 640x480,
so you can't really see how good or bad is the mon.

when i go to bestbuy, I'd reduce those mon screen size to see if the borders are bowing.

they do the same trick with TV's, like splitting the signal 500 times. go with the reviews on this forum, epinions, or any other trusted source.
