Best Buy gave my credit card number to Sports Illustrated without my permission

Long story short, BB signed me up for a subscription to SI. I did not request this. They always ask, I say no. I know I said no, because even if I HAD said yes I would have picked Entertainment Weekly, not Sports Illustrated. I know they gave them my credit card, because SI says they'll charge my card if I don't cancel.

I'm pretty annoyed about this. Beyond canceling the subscription, is there anything I can do about it?

Don't shop at BB anymore?

A) I signed up for that too - it was an 8 week free trial. Did it take you 8 issues to realize you didn't sign up for it?
B) When I signed up for that, I had to swipe my credit card a SECOND time for the SI subscription - once for my purchase, once for the subscription.
C) I canceled a week after the trial ended and I'd been charged, and SI refunded the full charge anyway, so just call them and explain it.

No offense, but unless that Best Buy works differently than mine, which I doubt....I think you did it and just forgot to/didn't cancel.

I sort of wondered the same thing. I'd be you had to click yes to something on the CC/Debt card pad or swipe the card. I'm sure they have proof somehow that you signed up for it.

yea...I mean hey, there's no shame in it, I did the same thing. I knew I wanted to cancel before the trial ended, and I just kept putting it off....but once I was charged, SI still refunded me the whole amount (and sent me two more issues), so I got 10 free issues of SI. I'm not complaining, and neither should mugs (if that actually was the situation).

A) He caught it before they charged his card, so he didn't forget to cancel.
B) He said he knew he didn't sign up for it because he wouldn't have picked SI.
C) Did you even read the OP?

ZeroIQ, I'm saying that if its the same as my situation, which it most likely was, he HAD to know because he had to swipe his card again...and give them his address. So I missed the one word that said they WOULD charge him not that they DID...obviously I understood the OP for the most part, and I'm saying that I'm calling BS on the not knowing part. Did Best Buy beat you as a child?

A) It didn't take me 8 issues to figure it out. I noticed right off the bat that I was getting Sports Illustrated and didn't sign up for it, but I get a lot of magazines that I don't pay for. I figured it was probably one of those companies sending me a free subscription. It started happening right after I signed up for a free subscription to Dr. Dobb's Journal, so I thought it might be related to that.
B) That's useful information. I vaguely remember having to swipe my card a second time at Best Buy a while back under the pretense that the first time didn't work. That wouldn't seem out of the ordinary to me, because I sometimes have to swipe my card a second time at Wawa if I accidentally swipe it before they finish ringing me up. Some stores have poorly designed POS systems.
C) My time hasn't run out yet, but I'm annoyed that I was signed up in the first place.

I understand...and if BB essentially lied to you and said the credit card didn't work, that's pretty messed up on their part, I agree....just that it didn't seem to coincide with my own experience.

They probably use the number of subscriptions as a metric for their register clerks like they use their service plans as a metric for other departments. It sounds like I must not have been paying attention very well for this to have happened, so it's at least partly my fault. I guess I'll just cancel it and forget about it.

^ I worked at BB for 3 years and that is true. If they don't refund the money I would file a class action suit against BB.

Something tells me that you aren't telling the whole story.
