Best (but not crazy expensive) LCDs for gaming?

My 19" CRT is about to bite the big one. I might just replace it with another CRT, but if I'm spending some dough, I'm wondering if it might be worth it to spend the extra $$ and get an LCD. What are the pros/cons of using an LCD for gaming? I seem to remember hearing something about not being able to change the resolution on them or something. Are there any LCD monitors that are actually good for gaming? Or do some just suck less than others? How can I tell a good one from a bad one?

Recommendations are, of course, welcome. Thanks.

I use a Hitachi 17" fast response time LCD for UT03 & 04 - its great. I don't see the problems people may say you get with LCDs.

Pros:
Space
Heat
Portability
Power usage
Cons:
Contrast
Small amount of ghosting

Define 'not crazy expensive'
My LCD is great for gaming, it's a 17" 16ms panel that cost $450, which is $100 more than my 19" CRT cost me new 4 years ago.

Got $750-800? Read the Dell 20" LCD review (click the Displays tab)

Note it should display games perfectly at 800x600 and 1600x1200 (with an fx6800 GT or Ultra :) ), and reasonably well at 1024x768.

Just buy a 21" CRT and know it will be your last fat-tron you will ever be buying cause in 5 years the heavyweights will be history.

Yeah, I would still pick a CRT over an LCD: I'm waiting for prices to fall more and that technology evolves so that the LCD scales resolutions fairly well.
