Best budget stylus tablet?

Need a tablet for hand writing notes and taking pictures of the whiteboard.

Already have a phone, laptop, and e-reader...so I don't want/need anything fancy for the tablet. Just decent build quality, battery life, pen, and screen.

I recall a few years ago seeing some tablet/phone with a pen that could recognize handwritten math problems and solve them...that would be a useful feature (especially if it could show how it solved the problem). Not required though.

The Asus Vivotab 8 could work. A tad small but effective.

Thanks for the input. I guess I forgot to mention a size, but I think 8-10" is probably a decent size. Anything smaller will compete with the phone, anything larger will probably be unwieldy.

One thing I'm noticing is the Windows tablets seem to have fairly poor battery life. This Asus for instance looks to only last a few hours. I'm also not entirely sure how effective Windows is with a stylus. I'm wondering if the Android OS is the better option. IOS is a no go, it wont mesh with anything else.

I picked up a used Galaxy Tab 10.1 2014 Edition for ~$220 a couple of months ago. That might be an option for you.

outside the short battery life that the windows tablet have, it seems cool with office and connectivity options (vpn) when working remotely. . I still would recommend it anyway. Cos its functionality is great for the market price.

Samsung Galaxy Notes aren't bad. You can find the 10 inch, 16GB one for around $260-$270 regular price from places like Walmart.

I think the successor is the Note 12.2 Pro.

You could always consider eventually getting a Galaxy Note, which while not a tablet, might work well for what you need and cut down on the amount of devices you need to carry around. If you're also in need of a phone upgrade, this might not be a bad idea.

The Note line seems to be the best although even the refurb prices on them seem to have actually gone up in price and it's been a while since they've had a new one. I've seen some people selling Surface Pros for like $300.

For others, there's the VivoTab (I think there's different models, there might be a specific Note version that you need to get, also one of the models apparently commonly has an issue with the ribbon cable going to the display coming loose and causing the digitizer to not work, but it's not too bad to fix apparently).

There's also the Toshiba Encore Write although they're a bit more pricey (I think the 10" is $399).

The nVidia Shield tablet might be an option, it supposedly does palm rejection but all the videos I've seen of people using it they seem to make sure not to put their hand on the display so I'm not sure if it really does work that well or not. It also has a somewhat odd stylus (it's angled instead of being a nub). But it's got pretty good specs and features otherwise as well.

There was a website that had a bunch of reviews of different drawing tablets and what digitizers they used and things like that. I thought I bookmarked it but apparently not.

The tab doesn't have the stylus does it? Isn't it only the Note and Pro lines?

Well, the 12.2 is basically the same thing. 12 is too big for me, I have the 10.1 2014 and am considering a tab 2 8 inch when it's released or possibly a shield 2 tablet,assuming they produce one.

Not to thread crap, but I'm looking to replace for a higher end tablet. Love my ps touch, cannot imagine without stylus.
