For $85 you should be able to find a x700 or a gf6600, although both are a little slower than the 9800p.

link? for comparing w/ the current games that are out today.

The 9800p is close to the x700p in performance. The 6600 and the x700 vanilla versions are slower on a fairly consistent basis.

If you can find an ATI X800XL it's faster than the 6600GT and ATI has dropped the price fairly heavily. It's more on par with the 6800GT.

Might be, but I don't really see those cards hovering around $ 85 however... :p

Try to find yourself a cheap 6600GT, when knowing where to look, you can probably get one for that price...

Aye, 6600GT gets my vote for better than 9800pro performance at the cheapest price - difference in price between this and vanilla 6600 and 6600DDR2 isn't enough to justify going with them. Plus no vanilla 6600's and 6200's could ever reach the GDDR3 memory clock speeds no matter how much you try and overclock them.

Hit's the budget card sweet spot for me, at 10,000+ in 3dm2k3.
About the same speed as 6600GT, but for less dough.

(Dell had similar for $62 two weeks ago).

Good alternative

It's a regular X800, with twelve pipelines, 400MHz core clock, and 128MB DDR1 RAM @ 700MHz (22.4GB/s)... Same performance as the X800GTO 128MB (of which there are, sadly enough, no reviews to find), but it may not always be faster than a 6600GT...

The latter also has SM3.0 (but unfortunately slightly misses the horsepower to let it acceptably run with high IQ settings), which is a feature that's still expanding... The X800 does have a 256-bit memory bus, which should make it faster when using FSAA and AF...

You can find 'em battling each other in this review, however, it's a X800 with 256MB, which makes a difference as well sometimes...

EDIT: Another review, again with the 256MB version...

In Canada I can get the 6600 GT for about $10 less than the X800XL. Not sure if that means the X800XL is cheaper, or the 6600GT is more expensive.
