best budget amd processor

Going to be building a budget gaming pc soon trying to get some input. So best budget amd processor? any input I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

"Budget" is a relative term. How much money do you have to spend, what games are you looking to play, what graphics card are you going to be pairing it with (if any), etc.

Also, are you dead set on getting an AMD processor? Depending on your budget/goals, an Intel processor may be a better choice.

If you want to rely on an integrated GPUs A8 7670K or better an A10 7860K, if you dont need the GPU and do not overclock the Athlon X4 845 is the best low cost offering.

I just bought a 3.6GHz xeon x5687 12GB Win 7 machine used for $200. It might be used but it is still a T3500 workstation and is very well built. It even has heatpipes for the CPU!

I actually would trust this hardware to last for 5+ years moreso than I would trust a brand new "budget" motherboard. And this xeon, while a bit old, is just as good as a FX-8320.

7670k yes, 7860k definitely. The 7860k for $105 is actually a pretty good deal, and you can definitely do a lot with it OC-wise. 845? Noooo, not for a gaming CPU!

Yes, plus the 860k's larger l2 cache give it an advantage in a lot of games over the 845.

I'd argue that the Athlon x4 CPUs look better than Intel Celerons and Pentiums for a budget gaming rig, due to issues with dual cores in some recent games, but FM2+ is also a dead-end socket with no potential upgrades. I would not buy an FX CPU in 2016, so my recommendation is going to be that either you buy a Core i3 (6100 most likely) because it's the least expensive CPU that won't offer a seriously compromised gaming experience, or if that's out of your budget, that you go with an Athlon x4, which is already showing its age and has no upgrade path, but is arguably the best you can do for under $80.

OP, do you live close to a Microcenter? They have some very good deals on AMD processor/motherboard combos.

But again, we need more information on your budget, gpu you are going to use, and what games you want to play. Personally, with the slow progress in cpus recently, I would expect a decent mid-range cpu to last for several years, and dont feel it is wise to skimp on a cpu.

I plan on the radeon 480x that just came out or an Nvidia 970 gtx at least that's what my friend recommended for a card.

In all honesty I want to build this computer to be able to run mmorpg games in a raid or pvp setting without having to turn the graphics down to be able to play.

I'd like to start by spending 600 - 700. I know its not a ton of money. But from what I've seen on new egg I think I could build something just any input on what to get is greatly appreciated =)

AMD CPUs suck for any 2016 gaming; FM2 is deader then disco, FX is utterly useless. You want no lower than an i5 6500. Anything else is compromise you will hate, especially with minimum FPS drops. A Core i3 will run MMORPGs, but anything else upcoming over the next few years will start to drag.

Take a look at the 870k and 880k as well . . . they are better CPUs, and if you can get them cheaply then they're worth examination. It should be a bit easier to cool the 870k and 880k if they're soldered, which I think they are. The 860k certainly isn't.

Nice price. You can pay more than that just for the 7670k alone, though the board . . . meh.

MMOs are notoriously single-thread heavy, and AMD CPUs are horribly behind in single-threaded performance. The CPU you want is the Core i3 6100.

Here's an example of a recent MMO:

Notice how the 5ghz 8-core AMD CPU (FX-9590) performs worse than the 3 year old 3.5ghz Intel 2-core (Core i3 4330).

Agreed, for MMOs and basic gaming an i3-6100 and a dGPU will be your best bet. and even the iGPU on the skylake chips isn't half bad if paired with fast RAM(3000MHz+).

I'm going to third this recommendation. An i3-6100 is a great deal at $110 for the CPU and another $50-60 for the board. Plus it's ready for future Skylake upgrades, so when you feel like you need more power, just drop in an i5-6500 or i7-6700.

I like the notion of this, but I find that by the time the i3-6100 isn't adequate, you probably won't easily be able to find an i5 or i7, unless you want to go 2nd hand.

Zen derivatives can't get here soon enough.
