Best (brightest) 19" CRT?

I now have to replace my old 15" SAM*TRON monitor.

What 19" monitor is brightest? I don't care at all about color depth or dot pitch (I'm color-blind, and my seeing isn't that great, hence the 19" req) but I've always had a problem with monitors being too dim, so that I can barely read non-white text.

BTW, Im in the US, if it matters. Newegg is the preferred retailer.

My NEC Multisync FE991 SB has good normal brightness plus for games it has 2 levels of "superbrightness" (toggled with one button on the monitor) to compensate for dark games that don't have their own brightness setting.

I got it through www.monitorsdirect.com though you can probably find it cheaper from a less reliable vendor.

Huh?

If you're color blind, then how do you know that the RED gun on your Samtron monitor died? 😕

I'm not the only one who uses it. If I was then I wouldn't have to replace the monitor, as I didn't even notice till my brother told me.

Also, whats a good brand(s) to look at?

EDIT: whoops, forgot: my max. price is ~ 225 total (shipping+base price-rebates<$225

Just so you know, sometimes you can get a 17" LCD for ~$300ish, a bit over budget but quite worthwhile. LCD's are much brighter than tubes, and 17" LCD's have almost as much viewing area as 19" tubes (kudos to the 5:4 ratio and the 17" viewable). Also, a LCD should be better for your sight.

well, is it comparable to the viewsonic A90+?
i was planning on getting that 19in monitor but if i can get a good LCD for a little moe then why not? will a LCD be good for gaming?

I would advise against an LCD. If your vision is not good, then you most likely use a lower resolution like 1024x768 or 800x600. A 17" LCD will not usually look very good at those resolutions (text can be blurry etc.). As far as a good CRT goes, I'm just not familiar with the current lineup to give a good recommendation.
