Best bonus/import albums in recent memory

The US gets stuck with plain vanilla albums, while other countries like the UK & Aus. get nice box sets & bonus tracks. These albums are great by themselves, but the bonus songs make them so much sweeter.

Three that I have not stopped playing since they've been out are No Doubt: Return to Saturn, The Red Hot Chili Pepper: Californication & another RHCP box set: The Plasma Shaft(Blood Sugar Sex Magik & a bonus cd).

The version I have of RTS comes with two extra songs, Big Distraction & Full Circle. BD is a pretty good song, but I really enjoy the hidden instrumental that plays a little while after you think it's over. Probably the most underrated album I've ever listened to. Back when No Doubt was still original & amazing. Runner up goes to the Habanero box set. Find me one under $140 & I'll love you forever.

The aussie version of Californication comes with a second cd that has 3 tracks: Gong Li, How Stong, & instrumental #2, with the last being the best. Imo the absolute best music(not singing/lyrics) in music for the past 15yrs. If you can find the single from that album that has instrumental #1, I also highly suggest that tasty track. There's also a bigger set, with all the singles that came out in asia, along with a shirt & all that crap. Still working on finding one.

The Plasma Shaft is another aussie only set. The original disc is the same, but the bonus disc contains the very rare "Soul to Squeeze", along with Sikiamikanico, which isn't bad either, & about 5 other mixes & edits.

Just these three albums represent about 70% off all the music I listen to. Amazing stuff.

Yes, I really wish politicians would wake up to the fact that one reason US record companies are making less than they want to (besides a recession, DVDs, and video games) is that they won't let us give them our money

Three examples:
1. I want the new Heather Nova CD, but it's import only. Same with the Fairport Convention reissues.
2. A lot of 80's and even 90's music is now out of print. I was going to buy Elastica's first CD (some fun garage pop), no such luck. Same with a bunch of Squeeze and Gerry Rafferty CDs.
3. Fiona Apple completed a CD with Jon Brion in mid-2003 but Sony's A&R man said "I don't hear a single" so they didn't think they'd make enough money off of it. Now she'll probably go Liz Phair and release some neo-bubblegum CD instead.

Soul to Squeeze was on the Coneheads soundtrack...

Yes, I forgot about that. I should said on their albums. You don't want most of the stuff on that soundtrack.
