I downloaded Asureus but the program is hogging up over 80% of my CPU and I'm getting super slow download rates.

I have a gig of ram, 2.4 Ghz cpu, and cable modem with blazing fast connection. Something isn't right. Outside of that program everything works fine.

Have you made sure the appropriate ports are forwarded in your router? That's usually the typical reason for slow download rates.

I prefer Bittornado over Azureus but that's just me.

Azereus never does this to me or any of my friends that use it, how long has it been since you updated java?

i agree.

very low resource usage, even with like 5 torrents going

Azureus uses virtually no resources on my machine (p4b 2.67, gb ram) with however many torrents running. CPU usage jumps around a bit in the low single digit percentages. I wonder how many people complaining about it need to update their JRE at http://www.java.com ?

Updating Java worked like a charm. My downloads speeds are still very slow. I'm on a T1 and my fastest connection (43 out of 126 seeds) is 11 kb/s.

If you're on a T1 I'm guessing you're at work? There may be a firewall blocking port 6881, or traffic-shaping software limiting BT speeds, in which case you may be out of luck unless you know or are the IT guy. If you can open & forward that port, doing so should help speeds. Keep in mind some torrents simply won't come in fast regardless, it depends on the seed to peer ratio and upload bandwidth all around.

Azureus is the best, just make sure you have the latest JRE and it should be fine. I never turn mine off, I can play Doom3 and be downloading things and never know the difference. Azureus isn't even close to the resource hog it once was, unless your downloading huge files and lots of them. Then it eats more ram then anything.
