I run a small manufacturing concern and i need advice regarding billing software..

I need a software in which i can simply enter the Item Code and Quantity of my products and the software would automatically calculate the amount etc. from a pre prepared database and print the invoice in an inkjet printer.

Which is the best Free/Paid option for me??

Thanks in advance :)

I'm a CPA, most of my clients use QuickBooks for this (and other purposes, inventory, payables, bank reconciliation etc). It's advantages are that's it's very inexpensive, used widely and user freindly as far as accounting software goes. So a lot peeps out there are familiar with it. Which is good when trying to get tech help or finding employees or outside accountants who are familiar with it - which also translates into lower costs.

However, last time I checked if you assemble a lot of components and sell as one product #, it becomes cumbersome in that you have to enter each component to ensure inventory is properly accounted for (reduced). Billing/invoicing still works fine though.

Again, it's Quick Books, NOT Quicken, which is a related but much different product. Hope this helps, if you need more info just post it. I'll check back later to help answer any ?'s you have. BTW, I don't work for them or get any commisions etc.

Hello Fern

Thanks for the quick reply.

I already use an account software. All i need is a simple software which lets me print invoices to give to my customers. I want the process to be as automated as possible. This is what i need -

I would enter my entire invertory and pricing details in the software beforehand.
On everyday basis, when I give the software the product no. and the quantity, the software prints an invoice after calculating total billing amount etc.

Will QuickBooks help?

Sounds like something that could be done with VB and Access, or just purely Access. You got any VB programmers on staff?

Absolutely, does all that and more. Keeps up with A/R aging etc. I'd say its automated, After the first sell, all the customer data pops up as you soon as start typing, drop in the product code/descrip and quantity and the price will auto extend (or be calculated). I think even sales tax, if you need that.

Comes with several pre-formated invoice types and you can customized to a certain extent as well.

I'm pretty sure you can get a free trial of the software and check it for yourself before buying. I'll find a link to their site and post back

Here's the site:
http://quickbooks.intuit.com/commerce/catalog/home.jhtml?priorityCode=0273400000&_requestid=45661

Although it probrably faster just to google Quickbooks and click on it.

There is a free 30 day trial.

I see on their site that they have a lot versions for different businesses. Probrably don't need to spend time sorting that out. Sounds like you just need the plain vanilla/regular version. I'd suggest taking advantage of the free trial and then go to BestBuy, Walmart, Staples etc or online retailer and p/u regular version if you like it.
