I just visited the beaches in Charleston S.C. this weekend. It was kind of shocking to me after going to the beaches in the Pensacola Fl. area all my life. How are the beaches elsewhere on the Atlantic coast?

Yes I went to folly and one other beach with a big boardwalk and a wide hard sand area.

Bay County = Panama City Beach. PCB spent like $20 million restoring their beach a couple years ago.

Pensacola Beach is doing that now. Some big ship turning sand about a mile off the beach.

No, not necessarity. Panama City Beach is only a small part (and it represents the worst our county has to offer). The beaches that are on federal property, around Tyndall AFB, are gorgeous. Not to mention they haven't been touched by any developement and are hardly ever seen by people :)

The best beaches I've gone to have excellent snorkeling within 50 yards of shore... dolphins, tons of sea life to see, gorgeous women, and most importantly, are not crowded with drunken college students, even during spring break. Unfortunately, since "not crowded" is important to me, I won't divulge the names of the beaches.. then again, it doesn't matter on 2 of them because they limit the number of people/cars on the island/peninsula.

I should have said Bay County contains PCB. Yeah I've driven toward Tyndall and flown a little near that area a couple times.

The Gulf coast has some gorgeous beaches overall. Of the ones I've been to on the Gulf in Florida, Alabama and Texas I find the actual beaches themselves (sand, water) to be nicer than most of the ones I've been to on the Atlantic coast. However, I know there's some nice ones on the Atlantic as well. Hawaii and islands in the Caribbean undoubtedly have the most beautiful in this region of the world though.
