Best bang for buck SSD?

Right now I have an old OCZ Vertex 60gb ssd that I use for boot and a few programs and have been thinking of upgrading it. Looking for something in the 100-120gb range. What do you guys recommend?

Not necessarily. I've had this one for about 2 years now. It works fine, just a little tight on space. I got it in a shell shocker deal on NE and for the onsale price/gb it was a pretty good deal back then. Just curious what everyone would recommend as I haven't kept up with ssds since I bought my current one.

I supplemented my 60Gb Agility with a $50 1Tb Samsung F3 or WD black drive. It is a really effective solution for having a bunch of games and apps installed while still benefiting from having your OS on SSD.

Getting a large expensive $250 ~240Gd SSD and filling it up with game installs makes each one of those games take up like $30 of HDD space. With SSD prices falling like mad (finally) this may become less of an issue.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll look into these suggestions and decide from there. On a side note, I'll be putting my rig together tomorrow: 2700k asrock extreme 4 gen 3, as far as ssd caching is there anything special I need to know or setup or does the system do that stuff automatically?

Wait...are you using SSD caching or are you installing a boot drive? SSD caching only uses 64 GB, so there's not a whole lot of reason to upgrade your drive in that instance. If a boot drive, there's no need for SSD caching.

It's really more of a problem with new drives. The vast mayority of the drives have been fixed now, but when the Vertex 3 and Agility 3 came out more than a year ago OCZ was using buyers as Beta testers.

My main recommendation with SandForce, OCZ, and the other SandForce vendors in general is to wait around six months after they're released to buy and to install the latest firmware before doing anything else. My Vertex 3 has the latest firmware and I've only had a single problem with it that was solved a while ago.

Do I need to do anything special with this ssd if I'm just going to use it as a spare hd and not a boot drive? Just follow the instructions and start loading programs? I'm assuming since it's not a boot drive I don't have to worry about what sata port it's going in right?

I thought about doing this too.

I'm looking to upgrade my 80GB Intel G2 also. Mostly need slightly more space, 120GB or so should be good. And i only have an x58 board, so no SATA 6GBps. Are there any reliable places to get a 160GB G2? I'm debating between a Plextor PX-128M3S, used to love those guys and an Intel 320/510 120GB. Its a bit sad that its such a struggle to choose a new SSD when a few years ago it was so easy, Intel g1/g2.

Definitely don't leave the slower one as boot/OS drive
