Dark Tranquility doesn't seem too popular, although I think its one of the best metal bands ever.

what's up with people listing bands that have huge radio play (other than the few people who were obviously joking)? mest? postal service? breaking benjamin? come on, these bands are huge.

my pick: the blood brothers. i'm pretty sure this band will never ever get radio play, though. huge energy, wild vocals, incredible lyrics, superb musicianship. the first truly good hardcore band i've ever heard. it was always one of those genres that was fine on paper but there simply weren't any bands that didn't suck majorly (similar to metal and others). but the blood brothers are undeniable. they just pummel you with their awesomeness and then laugh about it. they bring the art and they bring the rock.

Mine would be Midtown. I always thought that they would hit it big, not Good Charlotte (ugh).

chalk it up to inadequate promotion. "like a movie" was the best "hit song" song i've heard in a decade. that song should have been HUGE, but MCA majorly dropped the ball. too bad, because midtown is a pretty solid band.

You gotta love "Bad Days" though! Oh, and I'm unsure about how many people know about Howie Day, but I really dig his stuff.

Karate, Trackstar, Boss Hog, Dinosaur Jr., Gentle Giant, and Tortoise. I'm sure lots of people know them, just none of my friends do.
Oh, and Obligerant, my brother-in-law's band. The name is the result of a drunken mesh of oblivious and beligerant.

I've never heard of ANY of those bands, especially on the radio.

Some of mine (though they are actually somewhat well known) - Nitzer Ebb, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and KMFDM (or MDFMK or Slick Idiot . . . they keep breaking up ;)).

Kutless <-- maybe more popular in the States, but no one knows them here
SR-71
Plumb

Also, what ever happened to Collective Soul? Haven't heard anything from them in ages... or am I missing something?

This is a great band - I'm going to their concert on March 27th. Can't wait!

In Flames & Dredg are both in my top 10 favorites. Dredg is great live, but I still haven't gotten a chance to see In Flames.

Big Wreck. Best rock band in the past 10 years. However, they won't appeal to those who like odd, funky, experimental, hip-hop, fusion rock. This is just straight-ahead rock played by very talented musicians and a great frontman/guitarist/songwriter. Unfortunately, the band broke up, and their frontman, Ian Thornley, just started a new band called Thornley. Frustrated by his lack of commercial success, he's teamed up with Chad Kroeger of Nickelback (who opened for Big Wreck back in '99), and changed his style to be more commercially successful. We're all hoping it's not a total sell out, but I'm still excited for new material from him, and I'll be at their 4/9 concert here in Arizona. I would urge any fan of good rock to check out some Big Wreck. And maybe Thornley (www.thornley.com).

If you're searching Kazaa, check out Big Wreck's "Ladylike" or "Mistake" for starters.
