this thread is for posting a band you know of that is good/great, but never got any play and most people don't know about.

my contribution is seattle grunge rock band 'Second Coming.' they had two singles that got some airtime back in 1998, but then they fell off the face of the earth (grunge rock was on the down slope at that time after exploding a few years earlier). you can pick up their self-titled album dirt cheap on the used racks.

I've been listening to a band called "Deep Banana Blackout" lately and they're pretty good. "Widespread Panic" is a band that I recently learned about, but I think they're actually fairly popular.

Both are kind of jam bands, I suppose.

glassJAw (Genre of their own)
A Whisper in the Noise (Probably the most unique band out there right now)
Thrice (My favorite band)
Minus the Bear (Pure Awesome)
Blaqk Audio (Think Depeche Mode)

nice! Afghan Whigs, was listening to gentlemen today. Has it really been 14 years since it came out. WOW!

I dont listen to any new music and dont follow mainstream music, So how do I know if anyone I listen to has made it big or not?

I did used to follow

blue meanies
and
the somking popes

if only because they were local(chicago scene)

Exodus. They aren't completely unknown or anything, but had much less popularity than the big 4 of thrash metal and were much better than any of them. They've only done one album that I didn't like (Shovel Headed Kill Machine) but their new one is coming out in a couple of weeks and sounds like it will be a great improvement.

Angels and Airwaves...they're pretty good (none of my friends knew who they were and they are hardcore music people).

The radio station plays them. Mainstream? maybe not but I think people have heard of them.
