Running two antivirus programs at the same time is probably not your best move  The guy suggesting VirusScan Enterprise... uhhh... they sell a minimum of a five-pack on that, last I checked ;)

what?

Edit: ok so Antivir has better detection (and cure?) rates.. so I can just use that . Thanks guys.. I hope if it cant get rid of a couple existing viruses it at least blocks new ones from coming in..

then configure it to your likings. you never kept it at any settings. try it again. i use it and its great.

Not necessarily true. I had problems with ZA firewall also. It would forget what I told it to always allow. This was a big problem in UT2k4, I would try to join a game and the program would lock up because ZA was blocking access to internet. I would have to do a hard restart of my comp to get it to work again.

I wish ZA worked better than it does. When working correctly it's my favorite firewall. I'm using Sygate now. It's not bad, but I liked ZA's features better.

AVG is the best. There is a totally free edition available with regular updates.

Norton is major bloatware crap.

And ZoneAlarm? Heh. Nevermind :D

Antivir is also totally free to home users and provides a MUCH higher detection rate than AVG, they also update it just as much if not more often than AVG and uses about the same amount of system resources, please see the detection rate tests linked in the guide to the best antivirus thread.

Yes, please see the tests here for a comparison of most antivirus applications detection rates:

Av-comparatives
a different site with a test of 91202 virus samples

the free ones:

20. AntiVir version 6.30.00.17 - 84.50%
21. Avast version 4.6.623 - 79.65%
28. AVG version 7.0.308 - 54.07%

NOD32 is kinda expensive i'll look at it more though

Edit: also , , for the comparatives on AV comparatives your looking for the AV with the lowest percantage all around right? Like that means how many it let in/failed to detect? or is that how many it detected?

It is the percentage that it is detected on both sites, for example:

AVG version 7.0.308 - 54.07%
Detected 54.07% of the viruses present but did not detect 45.93% of them.

You really don't need an actively-monitoring antivirus program if you have any idea how to use a computer... in my opinion.

Hardware firewall + software firewall such as Kerio, Sygate, etc. + simple precautions and up-to-date patching.

And Norton is terrible. I can't understand how anyone can stand to use that.

thats for intrusions of real people trying to hack my PC, not viruses, trojans, worms, etc

Does Virusscan Enterprise have a website?

Edit: nevermind. Does it lag any?

You did something wrong. My zonealarm works just fine, it only asks me which programs that I let in only when its the first time or when it changes.

The only thing you need an antivirus program for is scanning files before you open them.

Trojans and worms will never affect you with the precautions mentioned above.
