norton anti-virus IMHO is hands down the best software out there. its not free but i think its worth it if you do a lot of downloading. i think norton keeps the most up to date on virus definitions.

i have my doubts about how good norton is. i have alot of clients that have put norton av on their pcs and still get infected, even with the dat files up to date. my suggestion is, no matter what you run, use one of the online scanners to supplement it. my personal favorite is at www.antivirus.com. together with pc-cillin it's kept my pc safe, and has helped out alot of my clients.

I bought a Trend Micro product called PC-Cillin '95. I've upgrade to the "2000" version and have been very happy with it's progress! BTW, I also have a legal version of Norton's 5.x and never have installed it...too many conflicts with other programs. Norton is known for conflicts...:disgust:

I have to go with Norton but not your consumer NAV. I have Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition for Win 2k, and it's awsome.

I have Norton AV 2000 (6.0 I think..) I got it at the educational price at my university for $40 canadian (~$25 US) so I couldn't really complain for that price.

I quite like it...I don't know that it's the "best" but I like it well enough.

Yep, I have been a loyal fan of NAV... been using it for many years and I never had any problems with it... Never got any viruses neither...
