Refurb often means battery crap.
What's best bang for buck in the under $300 range?

What's better Moto G or Pure (2015) ?

It seems they are the same price.

The G seems newer. More RAM. Android 6.
But, worse display and worse CPU

What is the point of the G?
To replace the Pure?

The G series are budget phones, while the X Pure was Motorola's high end smartphone for 2015.
The X Pure is the best of this two.

I'd hesitate to recommend any phone with spotty software support, even at $300. The Moto X Pure is still at 6.0 and the May security patch AFAIK as we roll into the end of August. They also haven't committed to 7.0.

This alone are the updates in the August patch:

The refurbed 6P for around $310 is still the better option I think for most people.

If you can stretch the budget by $100, OnePlus Three looks real nice for $400.

In fact, I would try hard to stretch your budget by $100, there's a lot of devices available at the $400 price point. Besides the OnePlus Three there's the ZTE Axon 7, the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 4s, and the Huawei Honor 8. That's just off the top of my head.

Huawei honor looks awesome for $350. Lovely design and they come in white as well. I am very intrigued by the Kirin 950 SOC it sports.

Edit: I remembered AT's deep dive of Kirin 950.

I had to double-check on the date of the publication. Quite surprising the chip was already in shipping products in January.

theres been plenty of nexus 5x 32GB deals the last month or so in the $250-260 range. the 16gb is even $200 sometimes. i love mine, and it has just as much battery life as my 2015 moto X did (i.e. mediocre, but still its enough unless you are using your phone a ton)
