FX8350 without discussion, it will handle 2-3 years more, add to this that AMD decent motherboards are cheaper than Intel similar
A 4 phase 970 or 990 is no cheaper than a 4 phase Z77, the 8 or 12 phase 990FX and Z77/Z87 boards are around the same prices.

I switched FROM AMD to Intel not long ago, Intel lasts longer than AMD, heck Sandy Bridge 2500K/2600K are still competitive in performance right now, are Bulldozer 8120/8150's? No, the Phenom II's are still a better choice over those.

FM2+ board however offer quite a bit of features for much less than AM3+/Intel boards, that's if you're willing to go with an Athlon X4 or A10.

The OP did come back, and he posted this last:

Thanks for all the help. I should have mentioned I was going to go with AMD due to budget constraints. I thought the dedicated GPU on the A10 was really good with Mantle but I think I took on their marketing talk a bit too much. Will go with the 8350 a dedicated GPU.

Thanks!

So, as far as the OP is concerned, the question was answered some time ago.

OP: Don't just presume AMD is best for the budget. That's putting the cart before the horse. Just give us your budget and you'll get a nice balanced build in return
