Person uses this heatware for surfing, office, watching tv, and possible use the vga output for PS2, or decent gaming system, not like Doom 3 on high setting.

Try to beat my spec by price or hardware:

new heatware:

CPU: AMD 64 3000+ ($161.00) NewEgg.com

MOBO: ChainTech nforce3 250 or Asus nforce3 250 (NOTE: Asus has GB, ChainTech doesn't)
Verdict : Asus $94.00 (89.00 + 5.00 sh) - NewEgg.com

Memory : Corsair or Kingston pc3200 ~$80 (What do you guys recommend)

Hard-drive: Seagate 120 GB IDE for $50 (final cost after Rebate & tax ) at Fry's ele.

DVD/CD Burner : NEC 16X $73.00 (NEW EGG)

Kind of stuck here, $458, need to get a case (preferably black and a gpu) PLEASE HELP, the cpu cannot be anything else except for 3000+.

Thanks

Why 3000 only? Get the 2800. I could build a A64 setup for less than $500

Mwave.com bundle:

NEC ND-3500A 16X/16 DVD DUAL LAYER REWRITABLE DRIVE -$69

Hard-drive: Seagate 120 GB IDE for $50 (final cost after Rebate & tax ) at Fry's ele.

Good question why only 3000+?

Also do you really need the gigabit ethernet? I know for darn sure that i don't have a gigabit LAN in my house, and my ISP is barely using 10 base-t let alone 100 base or 1000 base.

Also, where are you getting $89 from I searched Newegg the only NForce3 Asus board they had was $129 so..... and again, you should look for the best deal and it isn't Asus

You'll most likely do fine with an AMD Sempron 3100+, it'll likely overclock nicely when you need the speed too.

gigabit

for sbc verizon's fiber-to-home due in 2 yrs. they struck a deal with the FCC that they no longer have to share such a network with CLECs. of course in sbc time it'll be more like 5 yrs

But! the sempron isn't 64bit. I know the general comment on this is "you don't need it"... but the price difference is worth the extra features of the Athlon64.
I know I'd want it, and benefit from it immediately with a 64bit linux, but even for the average user the 64bit extensions will soon be a plus - WinXP64bit is just around the corner. In a couple of months you might be sorry for missing out the 64bit functionality.
