Best Alternative to Netflix

Wasn't sure were to post this, so since this is a "tech" forum, why not put it in OT.

I'm looking for a good alternative to netflix, preferably one that someone has "first hand" experience with and can tell me how good they are.

I'm sick of Netflix shipping #10, #6 and #1 in my Queue. I'm sick of them not "moving" fast enough, etc.

I live in New York, so if they are based it Cali they would STILL probably be faster since Netflix likes to "hold up" on returns.

So, whats the next best thing?

Does Blockbust Online do what Netflix does? (hold off shipping, not shipping in right order)?

At this point I really think Blockbuster Online would be the best choice for me.

I just need to makesure that there FAST. (I don't want to be paying $17.99 per month for nothing)

personally I don't know. When I tried it a year or so ago, when blockbuster first came out with it, they were sloooooowwwwww.... but then maybe they did make improvements, not sure.

Actually, I think BBO is $14.99/month for three movies out. Plus you get two in-store rentals free.

As long as you live relatively close to a distribution center, they are fast.

Actually, I think BBO is $14.99/month for three movies out. Plus you get two in-store rentals free.

$14.99 is two at a time.

That a new thing? Cause I'm using BBO right now and my plan is $14.99 a month for three out at a time with two free in-store rentals a month.

edit: Just looked at their site and new users are being charged $17.99 a month. :confused: My account is still showing me only being charged $14.99 a month.

edit2: Ahhh I see now. They are offering two more in-store rentals then what I'm getting.

I've had nothing but good stuff from Netflix. Of course this might be due to the fact that the distribution center than handles my address is here in town. Good luck with your search though! :)

Well, my "Billing Period" ends on 2/15, but I'll probably cancel when the rest of my movies in my Queue arrive. I'm just pissed that it take a fvck'n week (sometimes more) to get there (and I know thats throttling) and they don't even ship my first (or second) movie in my queue.

I guess I'll try out blockbuster and if I don't like it I can always swich back right?

Check out the distribution centers for both. Living near a distribution center really makes a difference in the time it takes for mailings.

Check out the distribution centers for both. Living near a distribution center really makes a difference in the time it takes for mailings.

Let me give an expample on how SLOW Netflix is. I live on Long Island, New York. I live in Ridge and a DVD I got shipped from Melville. Now, Melville (might have spelt that wrong :p) is about a half-hour away or maby even closer. Thats approx., it might be a little more, but none the less, the distribution center is on the island (i think there two on long island, one in melville and one in flushing (part of NYC). Now the Island is only what, 100 miles by 50 miles? So how come it takes A WEEK to get from my local PO, to a distribution center less than 50 miles away. I've shipped packages across the country to Cali that took less time. Whats up with that?

Guess thats my little rant :p

Blockbuster Distribution centers?, ones right in flushing, an hour from my house, is that good?

I think theres two BB distributers in my state. Think I should say what the hell and go for it?

Just heard another good thing about BBO, they have the Post Office scan the DVD's so that they can ship it faster :D

Screw it, I'm going to BBO.

Edit: They just better have all my Anime titles.

According to this there is a Netflix distro in Flushing and Roachester, NY as well. Might as well give it a shot and see how you like it.

All my Netflix stuff use to come from Flushing.

I tried Blockbust A LONG time ago and they shipped from NJ (which I now know they ship from NY), and I think that it was faster going to NJ. :p

Was with Blockbuster online for over a year

Never had any problems with throtling which was a good thing as 3 movies would go back out the next day and new ones would be in within a day or 2 after that

Just Canceled Netflix, signed up for Blockbuster, already have 8 movies in Queue.

Hope I like it.

I use blockbuster online instead of netflix now. I have the 3 out at a time, 4 in store, 2 free previously-viewed DVDs of $9.99 or less for $24.99 a month. No complaints.

There were blockbuster commercials yesterday and I think it said something about how they can increase or decrease the delivery time of the movies. To me this meant they can throttle your movies just like Netflix is doing.
Super fast service for new people and moderate/average service for the verteran customers.

I think they use their stores for some returns now. I noticed that my return envelopes started having local store addresses on them.
