I think that's the first positive I've heard on that. To the OP, did you have a backup email address listed that was not gmail?

I still have my 10+year-old email address from an old dialup provider. $5/month I don't mind spending.

I really REALLY wish you would have put a warning around this one. I'm in my office and I just saw the top part of some of those pics before closing the tab !!

😱

I did not see anything like that at all here. Then again the fish does a good job at sniping advertisements.

I forwarded my university's e-mail address to my gmail to make it easier for me. But since it's gone, I had to disable the forwarding. I did not put any backup e-mails. This account is about 3-4 years old too. Still no response from google though.

the reason I ask is because that may have been one of the sticking points of getting things resolved. I never could get an answer asking google help to see if having that backup address listed would help you. Presumably, it would make you more of a "real" person or something.

It's hard to let go of the google interface tho. I've been so accustomed to labels that I don't know if I could go back to folders, hah.

He obviously doesn't if he can't access his account.

Want...another invite?

It's no longer beta so he can create an account without needing an invite.

I thought GMail was going to always be in beta?

This is actually something that was mentioned when I was reading about someone who had their account hacked a while back. They had gotten in touch with Google support, whose first response was basically "tough shit, you didn't list a backup email, so you're as likely to be the hacker as anyone else. Better luck next time."

I think they eventually got their account back, but it sounded like that alternate email was one of the few truly identifiable pieces of information they collected about you, and was thus a pretty big deal. Of course that was just one experience, so who knows.

I lost my first gmail account and never got an explanation.

This is before you could even get invites though and it was very beta.

Fuckers.

only google apps is out of beta.. and the only thing that has an SLA. It also is slow to take in the features of gmail for everyone.

gmail for everyone else is still beta, just out of "private/invitation" beta. I'm convinced it will never get out of beta, and it is simply a way to have TONS of testers to slowly migrate features into google apps.

Another good reason to use FastMail: IMAP subfolders. 😀

lol I swear I don't work for them, I just *really* like their service.

for $5 a month you could have your own domain with your own webhost, with your own ftp access to your own website.
