I'm trying to grab a domain of my lastname (ie. lastname.com) but unfortunately the .com, .net, and .info are all taken. Anything else seems to be wide open. I was thinking .me?

From a professional standpoint is anything but a .com worth considering?

.org

Well, not for a personal site. But .com. .net, .org, and .us are the only ones I've purchased before.

I don't like .me because it technically is a country TLD.

I wouldn't consider anything but a .com or .net

Maybe firstnamelastname.com?

Right now, just for email mostly, was hoping firstname@lastname.com but alas no luck. Later on maybe an online resume of sorts.

If it were me, I'd try to find a name I liked the sound of, and would work well with my general career and interests. Maybe a creative blending of your first and last name?

This is available, and so is firstinitallastname.com Thoughts?

Depends on your profession and your intentions for the site, it sounds like it's purely for e-mail vanity?

I would snag firstnamelastname.com while it's available.

Make sure to use a reputable domain registrar such as NameCheap.com

COM/NET/ORG. If it's not one of those three then everyone is going to think it's a scam/spam site.

If I got an email from John.Smith@johnsmith.com I'd think he was suffering from a pretty debilitating mental illness, and I'd consider researching and donating to the cure for the poor guy. I don't understand why anybody would want this.

My name wasn't available in .com, so I bought .net. I wouldn't buy anything other than .com or .net personally.

yep

If I see anything other than .com or .net, I instantly think of someone who didn't want to spend the extra $5/year to get .com or .net. I then deem them worthless to society and add them to my list.

I just searched for my last name and its taken. There are only 20 people in the whole country with my last name. I know none of them bought it....

I second the .com or .net only suggestions. Yesterday I finally got around to getting a domain and hosting; I used firstmiddleinitiallast.com.

EDIT: I plan to have my resume and a blog sort of thing, mainly concerning programming and software development topics.
