Best all season tires?

Just got a chance to see how my new car tires (Cooper Treadsafe) perform under heavy rains. And I mean heavy. It rained like crazy here all day (New Haven County,CT) and I drove for abt 90 miles today


There was the occasional swaying here and there, but the car never went out of control (a couple of SUVs and an occasional car did along the way), and overall, I was pleased with the performance. Even the braking was smooth.

This might be a little too non-technical description of what happened, but I can tell you that the driving conditions were far from ideal . There is road work under way on I 691 near where I live, and the milled out road with poor drainage, i.e. accumulated water on the road didnt help either..

My area still has a floodwatch till tonight (Sept. 28)

I've got RE 950's on my '87 924S Porsche and they did amazingly well this past winter. I was in Pittsburgh when that mini-blizzard dumpped about 16 inches of snow overnight. University was closed the next day. I took my car out for a drive and those RE 950's bit right into the snow. That little RWD coupe of mine went over unplowed roads without problem.

Read the reviews on the reasonably priced Toyo Sport 800 (maybe not that exact name, but it's got "sport," and "800" in the model name). My favorite tire guy at my favorite tire shop recommended those and he really knows his tires. I never ended up buying them because I had a car accident between the day he recommended them and the day of my appointment to have them installed with a wheel alignment (thanks to my old, worn-out tires). I read some reviews and they were all favorable. Check them out.

I'm in the same situation looking for tires for my dad's car. Snow traction is the most important thing on our list (of course without going to snow tires)

The Dunlop Sport A2's seem to be a clear winner in "high performance all-season" with a 50k mile warranty.
As far as less expensive "normal" all seasons, the kumhos are a steal at $40 a tire.

Anybody know anything about the "X Radial" sold at sam's club and costco? It seems to be a tire made just for those stores- and i'm unable to find good review information.

I sure hope those Dunlop A2s are completely different from the infamous D60-A2s of a few years back. When ANY amount of snow hit the ground, those were some of the worst "all-season" tires to have, ever! They were the epitome of danger, as in "look out!," as in white knuckles, as in "ahhhhhhhhh!", as in take the side street at 15 MPH. Just terrible. Personally, I wouldn't even consider those tires, unless independent testing shows that they're nothing like the old D60-A2s.

I am looking for more of the best tire and not as much for the cheepest tire. I've spent a lot of time reading info and reviews at TireTrack.com and the best I found seems to be the Brigestone Turanza LS for $89 each.

I was wondering if anyone can suggest a good tire or a good site that has tests of many tires in dry/wet and snow enviroments.

that's what i just had put on my minivan. AWESOME tires btw.

That's right! They were "Ultra," not "Sport."

I'm probably going to get a set for the Protege when the time comes.

no all-season tire can give u the traction in snow compared to snow tires

Actually, I have these on my Taurus. They are not very good wet weather tires ... not nearly as good as the Michelin MXV4 tires on my other vehicle. The Viva 2 tires are cheap, but I'm afraid to puch my car in certain conditions. Since I just had them installed this past spring, I don't know how they'll perform during the snowy season ... time will tell.

really? i know the original Viva's were crap. traction = B. i had them. i slid a little bit when i braked hard when it rained.

How bad do u slid when u brake in rain with Viva2?

guess i'll get the goodyear touring tires then. (still @ walmart)
