best all-in-one (printer/fax/scan/copy)

Hello there

I'm need to buy an all-in-one printer. I currently have a seperate printer,scanner, and fax machine and they are taking up too much room... plus they are getting old...

I'm thinking of getting this:

What do you think?
Cost is not really an issue, I just want to make sure I get a quality product which is fast, efficient, and won't break down.

It is for my personal use in my office, I print probably 3,000-5,000 sheets a month, plus I ocassionally have to scan legal documents (save as pdf hopefully convenient), plus a little faxing and copying.

With that kink of duty cycle, you'll probably want one of the HP L series: L7590, 7680, 7780 unless you don't need color output. These are about the only inkjet printers with that kind of duty cycle - most inkjet specs don't even mention a duty cycle. There are some limits to the duplexing function (only certain sizes of paper are supported in duplex mode and legal is NOT among them - I'm guessing you won't need duplex on legal size). You'll want to check all functions of any printer you settle on to be sure they will scan, print, duplex the paper size(s) you need. I went and bought a duplexing acc'y for my K5400 (same print engine as the L units I listed, but print only) before digging thru the manual to see that it doesn't support legal size duplex which is great for printing out software manuals (booklet style at 4 pages per sheet of paper) - I was really disappointed with that as my old Canon inkjets could manually duplex (flip the stack and back thru) any paper they could feed. Manual duplex is unavailable in an easy method on my K5400 et al.
. If laser black is all you need, then I'd look at Brother/Samsung (same print engine) as well as HP.

I have that exact model. I got it in July for $80 shipped after MIR. It's a great unit, but I don't put nearly that much paper through it. It's warm up time is very quick, faster than the large Dell unit at my workplace though it's ppm is a bit lower. The scans are fast and easy as are copy and fax. It's a great unit but if your printing that much, I'd get something larger. The single paper tray cannot even hold a whole ream. If you print 5000 pgs a month I'd look into something larger as Zepper recommended.

Just another note. The paper feeding on the HP inkjets isn't as reliable as on their lasers. Canon doesn't really have anything in an office grade inkjet anymore since they dropped the 5000 series. Too bad as their paper feeding has been excellent in the five or six of them I've had over the years. Have to look at laser there.
