best-bang-for-buck for general functionality? Axim X5

Agreed, it's not as slim as the HP iPaq's and doesn't include built in WiFi.

However it has both CF and SD slots and is CHEAP.

Just searched eBay and found a few BRAND NEW SEALED Dell Axim X5 400's for $200 + shipping, the auctions close in about 3-5 hours.

Also check out the HP iPaq 1945.

You just missed an awesome Hot Deal, the Palm Tungsten T3 for $199 - I think that's $200 below retail.

Enough to make a Ferengi $#@! his pants.

was gonna provide a link for it--but I can't find it on dell's site anymore.
don't think its discontinued--😕

yea--x5 is a little bulky--but best features for your price. plus you can hit it with a truck and it'll still work. (possible exaggeration)

Can I jump in with a couple questions too? I'm looking for something in the same range. I prefer something that I can use as a calendar, date book, address book, play some games, and important that it be a portible MP3 player as well. I hear good things about the X5....is the X3 junk?

x3 is not junk. its also great. less expandable since they dropped CF support, but its smaller and faster.

I grabbed a Tungsten C (with the built-in WiFi) for my wife the other day for $200 A/R. Not bad considering the MSRP is like $499. 😀

X5 - older model, not slim, accepts both CF and SD.

X3 - newer model, slimmer, offers integrated 802.11b WiFi but only accepts SD.

If I had the money I'd get the Axim X3i
If I wanted CHEAP I'd get the Axim X5 400MHz
If I wanted bling bling I'd get whatever NFS4 has (HP iPaq 4155 I think)

if you guys aren't interested in wifi support (802.11 or bluetooth), i'd go with the x3.

if you guys want any wifi and are on a budget--check out the x5.

if you guys arent on a budget and can wait for a great ppc--wait for the new x3 with bluetooth & 802.11b support!!!!!!!

the basic x3 w/o 802.11b support is also a nice product that'll fit their needs (probably).

ps. i'm trying to push the axim before NFS4 comes blazing in with his ipaq promotion.

no word on it yet--FCC just approved it so it won't be for a while.
also, it'll be WAY out of your price range.

one isn't better than the other.
they're just targetted to different users.

x5 = users that want their ppc to do everything and have massive expandability

x3 = users that don't care about expandability and want a more portable unit

How is that confusing, do you mean because of the numbering scheme (higher numbers = better?)

X5 - OLDER

X3 - NEWER

Read the last 2 pages of the X3i review

Thanks for the link. And yes I meant it was confusing b/c normally a company uses higher numbers to indicate newer and better models. (ie Palm I, Palm II, Palm III).
