I am planning on overclocking. I have an Abit IC7 Max3 mobo in case that causes any space issues with some HS/F combos. :)

You must mean thermaltake, you couple any fan you want with the thermalright :wine:

I see that now, I just followed that newegg link to the manufacturer site and it had a Delta fan listed with it. Whats so good about this particular hs that i can use any fan? Would it be ok to take the stock fan off the hs taht came with the proc and go from there? What kind of benefits can I expect to see?

Also, Ive seen this "hood" that turns the fans perpendicular to the hs and channels air into it. Is this a gimmick or you think its worth any thing??

DeRailur, the Thermalrights come without a fan. If you're worried about noise, I would get a Panaflo 92mm, so it can move more air, at a lower spindle speed. I think that would work well for you. Although, the Zalman 7000Al-CU comes with a fan, and is supposed to be quiet. It's HUGE, though, so it might not even fit in your case.

SP-94 vs SP-97 vs. SLK-900U vs. Zalman 7000A-AlCu vs. 7000A-Cu

SilentPCReview

its pretty clear that when Thermalright's heatsinks are coupled with a panaflo fan, regardless of rpm speed, the Zalman's beat out the best from Thermalright. Unless you have a smart fan, or fan that pushes a lot of CFMs (--> read loud) then it's better to stick with the Zalman due to its compatibility with all 3 sockets, slightly better performance, and lower price level.

Good review! Makes me want to change my Silent Boost for a CNPS7000 now!

Honestly, any of the top coolers will be great, it's more a matter of wether your board has mounting holes for certain coolers, and wether your board's layout will accomodate the dimensions of some of them. Some do have a slight edge in price/performance ratio but it's not enough to be the factor in which to get.

my sp-94 beats my zalman cnps7000 at the same noise level...im using a panaflo L1A
