Best AIM client?

I have used AIM, Trillian, and Gaim. Trillian is great, but it doesnt show links in people's profiles, which is irritating as all hell. The only "extra" feature I will ever use is file transfer. Anyone know of an ad free relatively slim client?

thanks.

edit: grammar

I use AIM+, although I don't think it's free anymore. Oldversion.com might have an old, free version

1. No bloat
2. Freeware/Opensource
3. Compatable with most IM networks

one of the many great apps by the open source community of sourceforge

Trillian Pro v 3.0 with the minibrowser plug-in on shows links in people's profiles\away messages.

oh, you're right, i didn't, did i? what i didnt like so much about gaim was the really bulky buddy list. i havent used it in a long while now, but as i remember, the each line in the buddy list was very large, with an icon and such. i remember that you could make it somewhat smaller, but i could still only see 50 buddies at a time. has that changed?

I currently use AIM 5.5.3593 with DeadAIM 4.5 and middle_man beta 2. The combo is great. DeadAIM 4.5 costs money (only $4.99), but middle_man is free. Middle_man pretty much does everything DeadAIM does, so you don't really need both, it's just I had DeadAIM first, and only installed middle_man cause it has "messaging while away" capabilities while DeadAIM 4.5 doesn't. Only snaffo is that they are only fully functional with AIM 5.5.3595 and lower.

Im currently using gaim.. My only gripe is the fact that the 'send file' option on the AIM side doesnt work.. Annoying.

I prefer the official AIM 5.2 version, it can still be found through google. To stop the ads, add these to the hosts file. I never really minded the ads, but once they started with the sound, that was the final straw...

Why use something like AIM Hack when you can use something like middle_man, which is free, that does everything AIM Hack does, plus other awesome features like logging, tabbed message windows, etc? Middle_man restricts what version of AIM you can use, but so does AIM Hack.

wow, 50+ buddies and links in profiles? heh... you guys are nuts, i use trillian and MAYBE have 50 buddies between MSN, AIM, ICQ, and Y! all together, usually with 10% online at the same time, and i NEVER look at anyone's profile (I started looking today, about 1% of my contacts even have a profile filled out)
