My friend is looking for a good AGP Socket 939 Board. Mainly for overclocking the Venice 3000+. Any suggestions?

If the poll seems weird, I have a virus and I feel like crap so sue me.

Its a trojan. Also, modz if you could move this to the motherboard section, that would be dandy.

Weird Poll, my Lawyer will contact you shortly! ;)

Nvidia, DFI seems most popular with O/Cers these days.

MSI K8N Neo2 FTMFW (For The Mother Fvcking Win) :p

I have this board as do others, and it is excellentay.

Good BIOS support

Good stability

Good Range aka X2's compatible

Excellent Overclock ability

The noise of the Chipset FAN can be a little annoying though (I think it will be only me that complains about this :p)

Lack of SATA ports on the NF3 and locked ones for that matter is a bummer :( .. but apart from that :D

EDIT: 75% pwnage for the MSI and NF3 at the moment :D

Why are people voting DFI for NF3 s939? I bet none of you that voted have the board. For those that do, they know the board is complete crap. Stick with an Epox or MSI NF3 s939 board. Those two are about the only decent choices you'll find.

how comes .. do you mean when you have other IDE Hard Drives already installed when installing the OS?

If so i had problem where i had the old OS on one IDE hard drive, Server 2003 on a logical drive (dual boot off of the same IDE HDD), then when i installed a new copy of XP on the SATA drive i found that it added itself to the dual boot BOOT.INI on the IDE HDD, and the only way to get around this was to disconnect the IDE drives whilst doing another fresh install of the OS on the SATA drive alone, because when still in that state (when i installed the OS with the IDE drives still in) if i disconnected the drive after the install, or changed the HDD boot sequence to try and just boot from hthe SATA drive alone, it would give me a weird error message (can not remember what it said now) because it could not find the BOOT.INI on the SATA drive, as one had not been created or updated with the right info, (aka the address IRQ for SATA drive on my mobo) ... ohh the fun and games of PC's :|

[/slight rant] :p

Yes the BIOS's are too buggy, and anyways it was a late release for the DFI NF3 s939, when the DFI NF4 was already out !!

The DFI nForce3 mobo is crap, but i bet people aren't even reading the post; they're just voting

MSI Neo2 Platinum is easily the best AGP s939 choice.

When i was researching mobos, i was amazed at how it got almost unanimous recommendations (if OCing).

Now don't get me wrong, it's not a perfect mobo (certainly has a bug or three), but overall, i am very satisfied with mine.
The huge following it has means lots of modded bioses, & great overall knowledge of tips & tricks for the mobo.

i would have to vote against the epox 9nda3j board for personal reasons. board started crapping out and their tech support was horrible. the 5th pci slot was unusuable as it would cause the cpu usage to jump up to 100% and it was unable to run dual channel nor 2t. their tech support pretty much refused to admit a problem w/the board after months of arguing w/them i send it back and a month or 2 later i get the board back saying it was fixed. tested the board and it had the same problems.

I have the DFI NF3 Ultra-D and voted for it. I've read lots of posts in various forums about the problems that people have had, but I haven't encountered them. I think the Bios chip may be the issue. They all went and flashed their bios to the newest one, even when there wasn't really a problem with the initial one. I'm running the original bios and have been very happy with it. It took my previous 3200+ way beyond what the other two 939 boards I've owned have done. The voltages and other tweaks that are on this board aren't available in most other 939 NF3 boards.

I recommend the MSI Neo2-F

It's basically the exact same board as the platinum minus the onboard firewire. I got it for $74 from ewiz too. :)

No...it does not. The Neo2-F (not FIR or anything else) is the exact same board minus the firewire.

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8T_Neo2-F&class=mb

looks like VIA chipsets to me ;) .. but you are right about the differences between the firewire on the FIR

EDIT: WHOOPS http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=650 you are right i was looking at the worng one K8T instead of K8N, hence the mix up on chipsets, ive never seen that board before (MSI K8N NEO 2-F) :p

Heh...yeah I think a lot of people don't know about the F version or have it confused with the VIA counterpart because it has all the same features as the platinum minus the firewire. It's also quite a bit cheaper.

Well I'm glad saw this thread because I just purchased a Amd 64 3000+ (venice) and A MSI K8N Neo2-F for about $236 at newegg.com. So If its as good as you all say then I did my homework right. :)

some of you guys must really be uninformed, the DFI NF3 has twice the votes of the EPOX NF3 but its well known it's a train wreck, not nearly as good as Epox or even MSI
