Best AGP 2 Card-Or Will AGP 4 Work, Too?

Hi All
I have a question that I haven't been able to find an answer for elsewhere--so here I am!

I want to upgrade my vid card (ATI Rage Fury Pro 32mb) to something newer that might give me better performance in Fighter Ace 3, a flying combat sim. I have a BCM QS440BX board, at 100FSB, P3 850. I'm trying to max this configuration out just one more time, before a complete rebuild...

The main question is this: the mainboard is built to the AGP 2X standard--what is the biggest, bestest card that conforms to AGP 2X? I'm looking for at least 64 mb.

And if I have to get something that is AGP 4X (is that the latest standard? not even sure--haven't been paying attention the last few years lol) will it even work, or just give diminished results at the AGP 2X standard?

Any problems actually physically fitting the different standard cards into the older(1X, 2X) AGP slot I have, or are they all identical? I have heard that there are MBs that will only take, say, an AGP 4X card (Intel i850, I think it was...)

Thanks all--I appreciate any ideas you might have....

All agp4x cards will work at agp2x speeds. The advantage of 4x over 2x is completely marginal right now, to the point where it's usually around 1fps, if that.
