What I like best is how he's playing the bass on one hand and the melody on the other. That's what puts him on a different playing field...his left hand was doing double duty.
alternate tunings are very common. There is nothing amateur about doing such- many pros do it.
In fact, you are considered very knowledgeable if you use alternate tunings. You have to relearn the fretboard. It also allows you to make impossible chords
🙂 I use G, C, D, and A6 tunings all the time. Keith Richards ONLY plays in G, and with only 5 strings!
In the end it's not the guitar, how it's tuned, or how it's played. It's the sound that comes out of it that matters. You could play with your toes for all I care, just as long as it sounds good.
