I have an EVGA 6800ultra agp and the thing is darn loud! Loudest component in my case by far......so im looking to replace it. Im looking at the NV5 rev.3 or the Accelero X1, i know these wont really drop my temps that much because the 6800u stock cooler is pretty good already, my main concern in noise. The X1 may be more silent but that would dump hot air back into my case....however from reviews ive read it doesnt seem to detract from its performance any. Ive read that someguy tried to install the X1 on his 6800u and it was a very confusing task to do because it had very confusing directions. This worries me because ive never installed an aftermarket hsf before, and i dont really want to fiddle around with my card. So then i started thinking about the NV5 but ive also read alot of reviews that the last rev.2 didnt sit right on the 6800ultra and had some irregularitys, 6800gt's for both these coolers were fine though. Has this been fixed in Rev.3? Just need to know your guys opinion on this. Maybe another cooler would suit me better?

well i had a 6800GT at ultra speeds and grabbing a Zalman Vf700 dropped my temps nearly 20 degrees at load

ive had stellar experiences with Zalman products so im gonna recommend a VF700 or a VF900 which is their newest cooler. both will cool that card very well, and they are both very quiet. i used AS5 on mine BTW

also, i have a friend who uses an NV silencer on his 6800U, and if your case is prone to dust, then you must make sure the fan and heatsink fins are clear of dust. he couldnt figure out why his card was over heating, and when he took it out, the fan had blocked the gaps between the fins with a thick dust

Have you considered the VF-700 or VF-900 from Zalman? It's very easy to install and they've got step by step instructions on their site if you need any help. I used to have one on my X800GTO and it was great, kept it very cool and silent.

EDIT: Beat by otis!

Never had any fit issues with an NV5 myself, except for the crappy RAM sink they included for the rear RAM on the 7800GTX.

Maybe the vf900 or vf700 from zalman. This or the Nv5 silencer. I miss the "ultra" name :(

I wish NV would use the "ultra" tag, insetad all these GTX, XXX, XTXX...

I think you made a good choice. Not sure about the fit issues onthe Ultras, but it is definitely quiet and exhausting the air directly out of the case is a big plus. I'm extremely pleased with mine.

Well if the NV5 Rev. 3 was for the 7800's then it makes sense that the Rev. 2's are for the 6800's (which I'm pretty sure they were if I remember back a couple of years ago.
