Best 4:3 Aspect Ratio LCD Monitor?

I would like a standard resolution like 4:3 and not something weird like 5:4 so games don't look messed up...or something...I would get a 5:4 ratio one if I could play games at lower 4:3 ratios without being compressed on the screen. Can I have black bars on the sides to make up for this and only use the pixels I need to use for the lower resolutions at the same high quality of the native resolution? Otherwise, can you tell me the best 4:3 aspect ratio monitors for the different screen sizes? Thank you very much.

If you told use your budget and what size you are looking for and any other preferences we can recommend some nice LCD's.

most 17 or 19" LCD's are 1280x1024 which is 5:4, but if you drop some extra cash and get a 1600x1200 20"+ LCD you can get 4:3 again or if you drop down to 1024x768 on a 15 or 17" LCD you can get 4:3 again aswell. Hope this helps... :)

NokiaDude has a point. But if you really want 4:3, you can get a 15", or a 20.1+" LCD. I recommend Dell's 2001FP with a coupon code (they are actually affordable with a coupon),

Almost all games out there have a resolution for 1280x1024.

I fail to see how that's a bad thing?

Personally, I don't think I could EVER use a 5:4 in games ... feels too "squar-ish"

That said, I shall now return to my 16:10 monitor :D

agreed. I was going to say the same thing.

The thing is why 5:4 sorta sucks in games is that it is a little narrower so in FPS esspcially your periferal vision sucks.

If you want 4:3 pick up a Dell 2001FP they rock.

First of all, as was said, 1280 x 1024 is too "squarish." Also, 1280 x 1024 is probably too high of a resolution for me to run games on anyway, since I don't really have too much money to make upgrades. Also, what's this 16:10 some of you are talking about, since I've only heard of 16:9? That being said, what are the best 15" monitors, since that may be my "best" choice? Thanks again.

Anyway, as I asked before, if I get a 5:4 aspect ratio monitor, can I play games on it at lower 4:3 aspect ratios (640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, etc.), but instead of filling the entire screen with the image and compressing it, I could put the image in the center of the monitor, only use the pixels I need for the 4:3 ratio, and have black bars on the sides with pixels I'm not using and keep the same image quality and everything else as using the native resolution?

I'm sorry if you don't understand that, but please read it carefully as it is sort of hard to explain.

Thank you again very much.

hahahah

do you run it in 1920x1200 or at a lower res?

I'm thinking of upgrading my 2005FPw for a 2405FPw (I got it about 3 months before the 24 was released), but I have been looking/waiting for a good price

If I do, I'll probably transfer the 2005FPw to the family computer :)

I meant that I was stupid for forgetting that 20 inchers run at 1600x1200, 4:3, and not 5:4.

On smaller servers IE less than 20 people I will run 1920x1200, if I go on the larger ones I drop it down to 1680x1050. I don't see any interpolation at all doing this.
