Preparing for a new monitor to replace my 24" Sony CRT that I like a lot but seems to be at risk of going bad (which replaced my then-$2,200 NEC 21" CRT) -

An ideal gaming monitor today seems to be the 30" hi-res. Big picture, vibrant colors, high resolution, etc. (Short of, say, using a big-screen TV).

So, any comments on the best gaming monitor nowadays? The 'sweet spot' where money is some object in the calculation. High end quality without wasting money.

I don't have much experience with 30" monitors, but my Dell 3007WFP-HC is awesome. I'm a college student, but I got it refurbished from Dell for $680 over winter break which was an insane deal and the only reason a spent so much. Compared to my old TN, the color is much more consistent and the viewing angles are fantastic. The other thing I enjoy is there is almost no input lag. I've seen a Dell 3008 and there is noticeable input lag (for me) so I think that would be a problem with gaming. The 3007 HC has no scaler, which supposedly cuts down on the amount of input lag, but due to this also runs at a native 1280x800 or 2560x1600 only; all scaling must be done through the graphics card. If you can find a deal close to the one I got, jump on it, it's an amazing monitor and an absolute steal at that price.

+1

I have the HP monitor with the same screen as the 3007WFP-HC and I love it. No ghosting and a very good looking picture. I picked mine up for about the same price as MrK6 when Live.com had the good deals with Ebay.

From what I?ve seen, the Dell 3007WFP-HC seems to have the lowest input lag of all of the 30" displays.

I am in this same boat with a 21" CRT...targeting 23" or more.

The Planar PX2611/Double sight 265 are the closest contenders at a sort of realistic price for me.

Thanks for the replies. Is the MrK6 concern about the 3008 accurate? What's the HP mondel with the good screen?

I had a 3007WFP-HC and upgraded to the new 3008. There's no perceptible input lag, as far as I'm concerned. You get little input lag once you go out of native res, but you also get better quality picture.

I currently own the 3007WFP-HC and the XHD3000 I love em' both while each have their own pros and cons, I must say the dell has much better input lag, but no osd and the gateway is much more feature rich but sadly and truly suffers from the mysterious 1-2 sec blackout every now and again. Overall both lcd's are absolutely gorgeous, 2560x1600 can be very taxing on your gpu
